The university city of San Lorenzo is the seat of the largest university in Paraguay, the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA). The district is located in the Central Department in Paraguay , about 13 kilometers east of the capital Asunción .
San Lorenzo has 287,977 inhabitants (2002 census) and is one of the largest cities in Paraguay.
history
San Lorenzo was founded in 1775 by the Spanish governor Augustin Fernando de Pinedo. In the 1970s, most of the faculties at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción were relocated to a new campus in San Lorenzo.
The city has been the seat of the diocese of San Lorenzo since 2000 .

San Lorenzo is a junction on Paraguay's traffic axes, as Ruta 1 leads to Encarnación and Ruta 2 to Coronel Oviedo and Ciudad del Este .
