The district of San Sebastián is located in the province of Cusco in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 66.4 km² (according to other sources 89.44 km²). The 2017 census counted 120,063 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 32,134, in 2007 74,712. With the exception of a few smaller settlements, the population lives in the city of San Sebastián, which is 3295 m high . The city of San Sebastián with 117,204 inhabitants (as of 2017) is located in the valley of the Río Huatanay and is part of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Cusco . The district is located south and north of the Cusco airport .
Geographical location
The district of San Sebastián is located in the central east of the province of Cusco. The Río Huatanay, a left tributary of the Río Urubamba , flows through the district in an east-southeast direction.
The district of San Sebastián borders in the southwest with the district Santiago , in the central west with the district Wanchaq , in the northwest with the district Cusco , in the north with the district Taray ( province Calca ), in the east with the district San Jerónimo as well as in the extreme south the district of Yaurisque ( province of Paruro ).
