The district of San Sebastián is located in the province of Cusco in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​66.4 km² (according to other sources 89.44 km²). The 2017 census counted 120,063 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 32,134, in 2007 74,712. With the exception of a few smaller settlements, the population lives in the city ​​of San Sebastián, which is 3295  m high . The city of San Sebastián with 117,204 inhabitants (as of 2017) is located in the valley of the Río Huatanay and is part of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Cusco . The district is located south and north of the Cusco airport .

Geographical location

The district of San Sebastián is located in the central east of the province of Cusco. The Río Huatanay, a left tributary of the Río Urubamba , flows through the district in an east-southeast direction.

The district of San Sebastián borders in the southwest with the district Santiago , in the central west with the district Wanchaq , in the northwest with the district Cusco , in the north with the district Taray ( province Calca ), in the east with the district San Jerónimo as well as in the extreme south the district of Yaurisque ( province of Paruro ).
