3890 inhabitants live in Sau (2015), of which 1955 are men and 1935 women. The population density is 282.6 inhabitants / km². There are 598 households in the Suco. Over 49% of the population name Galoli as their mother tongue. More than 38% speak Tetum Prasa , 3% each speak Idaté or Tetum Terik , minorities Habun , Makasae , Waimaha or Fataluku .

Before the 2015 regional reform, Sau had an area of ​​14.72 km². Now there are 13.77 km². The Suco is located in the northwest of the Manatuto Administrative Office on the banks of the Wetar Strait . To the south are the sucos Iliheu , Ailili and Aiteas , to the east of the Suco Ma'abat . To the west of Sau is the Laclo administrative office with the Suco Uma Caduac . The Northern Lacló , one of the few rivers in north Timor that carries water all year round, follows part of the Sau border to the south, before crossing the Suco west of the city of Manatuto and finally flowing into the Wetar Strait. The part of Sucos west of the river belongs to the Important Bird Area of Mount Curi .

The municipal capital of Manatuto lies on both sides of the border between Sau and Ma'abat. On the side of Sau are the districts of Sau , Manatuto , Ailili , Aiteas and Iun . On the west bank of the Northern Laclos are the villages of Malarahu , Obrato and on the coast Obrato 1 . Four highways meet in Manatuto: From Laclubar , Laclo, Dili and Vemasse .

In the Suco are the two Aldeias Obrato and Sau .

In the elections of 2004/2005 was António dos Reis da Costa elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected.
