Abutilon (often used for some types of German-language common name Abutilon) is a genus within the family of mallow (Malvaceae). The 150 to 200 species thrive mainly in the tropics to subtropics almost worldwide. Numerous varieties of some species are used as ornamental plants .
description
Vegetative characteristics
Abutilon styles are mostly woody plants : Half bushes , shrubs or small trees . Most of the species come from South America and are evergreen; some species are native to the cooler mountain forests of Chile and are deciduous. The vegetative parts of the plant are hairy.
The alternate leaves are arranged in a petiole and a leaf blade. The leaf blade is simple, rarely lobed ( Abutilon pictum ) and pinnately veined with a heart-shaped base. The leaf margins are notched to serrated. Stipules fall off early.
Generative characteristics
The mostly stalked flowers are arranged individually or in pairs in the leaf axils or in little-flowered inflorescences . There is no secondary chalice.
The hermaphrodite flowers are radially symmetrical and five-fold. The five green, often durable sepals are fused together like a bell. The five mostly yellow to orange, more rarely red (often darker in the center) petals are fused at their base and usually form a bell, rarely a tube ( Abutilon pictum ). With them, the drooping flowers have an inflated calyx over a bell made of five overlapping petals. In the subfamily Malvoideae, the many stamens have grown together to form a tube surrounding the pistil , the so-called Columna . There are five to many carpels are a five- to vielfächerigen ovary grown. There are two to nine ovules per carpel . There are five to many stylus branches.
The split fruits, which are often black when ripe, are almost spherical to hemispherical and usually disintegrate into five or many partial fruits, which have a leathery pericarp . The kidney-shaped seeds are hairy or glabrous or slightly downy.
