The Agricultural State College Rotholz ( LLA Rotholz ) in Rotholz Castle ( Thurnegg ) is located in the municipality of Strass in the Zillertal , in the Lower Inn Valley near Jenbach.

history

The Rottenburg was originally located above the valley floor , but the name Rotholz is documented as early as 1180. At that time it was owned by the Lords of Rottenburg , ministries of the Counts of Andechs . It is documented as a castle in 1263 as Castrum Rotenbruchì . The name Thurnegg appears later , as a defense tower, as the castle was initially called.

Rotholz Castle was built from 1575 to 1585 by the builder Alberto Lucchese as a hunting lodge with a zoo for Archduke Ferdinand II . From 1704 to 1706 a renovation was carried out by the Counts of Tannenberg . The castle remained in the possession of the Tannenberg until 1848. From 1848 to 1860 the castle was owned by the rulers, from 1860 to 1889 by the Bishop of Brixen , and since 1889 owned by the State of Tyrol .

The building has been used as an agricultural school since 1879 . A technical college for dairy farming and cattle breeding was originally founded here.

Today the school is an agricultural and forestry technical school (BMS) and vocational school (BS) . The school types are offered:

It is operated by the State of Tyrol and has a boarding school . The affiliated training company includes the branches of agriculture, pigsty, cattle shed (with Alpe Kaunz ), chicken coop, fishing, beekeeping, gardening, tree nursery, fruit growing and fruit processing and forestry.

The surrounding wall with originally four corner turrets was built between 1575 and 1585. Two corner turrets are still preserved. The main portal and the side portals were built with columns and horizontal beams. The second floor was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The chapel and the ballroom were greatly changed. A statue of St. Sebastian , which was created by the sculptor Ingenuin Lechleitner around 1720.

Museum for farm equipment and facilities

The suggestion of the then Provincial Councilor Eduard Wallnöfer to collect items from rural life here (1957). Since then, the institute has been collecting work equipment from agriculture, forestry and alpine farming, but also furnishings such as boxes and chests. They will be presented on site.
