occupation

Schwarzfahrer is an Austrian tragic comedy from 1996 . The film was produced on behalf of the ORF by Allegro Film under the direction of Nikolaus Leytner and shown in cinemas from October 10, 1996. The TV premiere was on June 7, 1997 on ORF one .

action

The film set in Vienna tells about the life of the architecture student Thomas. One day, his friend Claudia asks him to contribute to the household income. Thomas tries to get money as a fake tram controller. He meets Erich of all people, who pretends to be a real controller, but also turns out to be a crook. He asks Thomas for a favor, who embroils the two in machinations and leads them into the Viennese demi-world , where they get in the way of a criminal boss. The film portrays the desperate attempts of the two men to somehow make money, even as a pornographic filmmaker. Thomas is finally left by Claudia, who no longer wants to endure the slow slide of her boyfriend.

analysis

The tragic comedy about a male friendship with the two main actors Lukas Resetarits (“ Kottan determined ”, “ Hinterholz 8 ”) and Andreas Lust (“ Suzie Washington ”, “ Opernball ”) is based on the cynical-bitter Austrian humor with special consideration of Viennese shame . Despite the cast with the cabaret artist Resetarits, this film is not one of the Austrian cabaret films that were made many times in the 1990s. As in some of his earlier film roles (such as in Peter Patzak's Tiger - Frühling in Wien or in Den Tähigen belongs the world) Resetarits plays a seriously accentuated role; it shows a failing man who is also without hope in the end.

Production notes

The color film, produced in 35 mm format , is available for rental from the film shop . ORF is responsible for world sales. Mohsan Nasiri was responsible for the sound and Katharina Wöppermann for the production design .

criticism

"A largely successful, routinely staged comedy comedy with more or less successful gags and puns, albeit without any particular artistic ambitions."
