Shalimar is a city in Okaloosa County in the US state of Florida with 717 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Shalimar is on the west end of Choctawhatchee Bay . The city is about 40 km south of Crestview and about 80 km east of Pensacola .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 717 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 348 households. The population density was 896.3 inh / km². 88.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 3.2% as African American , 1.0% as Indians and 3.8% as Asian Americans . 1.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.1% to several ethnic groups. 5.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 26.8% of all households and people aged 65 and over in 25.5% of all households. 70.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.34 people and the average family size was 2.76 people.
21.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 16.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 39.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 47 years. 47.6% of the population were male and 52.4% were female.
The median annual income was $ 84,750, with 9.2% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 96.18% of the population and 3.82% spoke Spanish .
