Sharrod Ford (born September 9, 1982 in Washington, DC ) is an American basketball player .

Career

After graduating from Clemson University , Ford tried his hand at the highest endowed US professional league, the NBA . There he could not assert himself and then played in Europe. With ALBA Berlin he was German cup winner in 2007 and with Virtus Bologna from Italy winner of the EuroChallenge 2009. After an engagement with first division promoted FC Bayern Munich in the BBL season 2011/12 did not come about and the contract was canceled before the start of the season Ford signed for the following season 2012/13 by the German double winner Brose Baskets from Bamberg .

From 2001 to 2005 he studied at Clemson University and played for the Tigers college team in the NCAA . With the Tigers he was the first player after Horace Grant in the 1980s, who managed to lead the team in points and rebounds in two consecutive seasons. Although not selected in the NBA Draft , he was signed by the Phoenix Suns in September 2005 after drawing attention in the NBA Summer League . After three appearances in the NBA, he was released from his contract at the end of December and handed over to the farm team Fayetteville Patriots in the NBA Development League (D-League), where he had another 15 appearances before moving to Europe in February 2006.

With Alba Berlin, Ford reached the final series in the play-offs of the 2005/06 BBL season at the end of the season , but they were lost to RheinEnergie Cologne . In the following 2006/07 season they won the German Cup, but retired as the main round first in the first round of the play-offs against the Artland Dragons . Then Ford moved to the Italian Lega Basket Serie A , where he first played for the club from Montegranaro . The climber of the previous season reached fourth place in the final table and for the first time the play-offs for the Italian championship, in which, however, they were eliminated in the first round. For the following season he was obliged by Virtus Bologna, who had ended the season only in 15th place in the table. The 15-time Italian champion therefore only started in the third European club competition EuroChallenge in the 2008/09 season , which they won at the end of the season at the Final Four tournament in front of their own audience. Ford was able to achieve a double-double in the final against Cholet Basket with 12 points and 12 rebounds . In the Italian championship they reached fifth place and were eliminated - from Ford's point of view again - in the first play-off round.

For the 2009/10 season, Ford moved to Russia like his Bolognese teammate Keith Langford and signed a contract with BK Spartak from Saint Petersburg . Ford left the club in a dispute over outstanding payments after two months, whereupon they returned to Serie A in Italy in January 2010. Here he could not prevent the relegation of his new club from Ferrara , which ended the season on the penultimate place in the table. For the 2010/11 season, he returned to the club from Montegranaro, but this time again missed the play-offs.

For the 2011/12 season, Ford was announced as a new addition to the ambitious German first division promoted FC Bayern Munich, but the contract was terminated by mutual agreement before the start of the season, for which Ford gave private reasons. In February and March 2012 he was again active in the D-League for six games with the Erie BayHawks. For the 2012/13 season he is making a new attempt in the German basketball league. Brose Baskets, which has dominated the last three seasons and has won the German double three times in a row, decided to sign with Ford. Ford ran until 2014 for Bamberg. After the early exit in the 2014 play-offs and the subsequent change of coach, Ford no longer received a new contract from Brose Baskets.

For the 2014/2015 season, Ford moved to France and joined Paris-Levallois Basket .
