history

Race before 2005

Even before 2005, day events of a similar form were held on the cycling track in Oberhausen. After the organizer at that time left, the cycling club was looking for a new partner who would take over the organization and the financial risk. With the Madison world champion Erik Weispfennig , who competed for a long time for the RSV "Edelweiß" Oberhausen, the right organizer was found.

Six days night

The first six days night took place on August 8, 2005. The modernization of the event by the new organizer was appreciated by the public, and the number of visitors increased. Erik Weispfennig was still active himself back then and started with his world champion partner Stefan Steinweg .

In 2006 Erik Weispfennig said goodbye to his active career as part of the Sixdays Night. In front of around 4,000 spectators, he won the Madison race alongside Erik Zabel .

Competitions and drivers

The field of drivers compete in various disciplines such as speed races , scratch races , elimination races , lap record driving, derny races, stayer races and Madison . Together with his brother Leif Weispfennig and the board member of the cycling club, Klemens Maier, Erik Weispfennig was able to develop the event into a permanent fixture in track cycling . In addition to numerous six-day winners, the organizers were able to sign world champions, Olympic champions and participants in the Tour de France for a start in the Rhine community of Oberhausen . The supporting program consists of races for beginners and youngsters in various age groups.

Expansion of the six days night

In 2007, an attempt was made to organize another six days night on the local cycle track together with the cycling club in Dudenhofen, Palatinate . The event had to be canceled at short notice due to the weather. The project was then discontinued.

Moderation of the event

The stadium spokesman for SV Werder Bremen and spokesman for numerous Sixdays, Christian Stoll, has been moderating the event since 2005 . In 2015, the former professional cyclist Franco Marvulli was appointed moderator. Since 2016, Stoll has been supported by the club's spokesman, Michael Schulz.

10 years of Sixdays Night

At the 10th anniversary on July 26, 2014, an all-stars race was held as part of the supporting program. Gregor Braun , Franco Marvulli , Gerd Dörich , Andreas Walzer , Andreas Bach and Stefan Steinweg drove a derny race .
