Easy Money - Feel the Fear (Original title: Snabba Cash ) is a Swedish action - thriller from 2010. The film is based on the novel by Jens Lapidus , who in Germany under the title of the fear tracer was released. The German theatrical release was September 15, 2011.

action

Johan “JW” Westlund lives in Stockholm and lives an expensive life on the Stureplan in the Östermalm district , where the upper class is hand in hand. In order to disguise his simple origins and lack of means, he leads an elaborate double life. To earn money, he drives a taxi at night and sells chores to his fellow students. One day he met the beautiful Sophie, a woman from the upper class. He falls in love with her and they start a romance. Since he wants to offer her the standard of living that she is used to, he is ready to carry out illegal actions for Abdulkarim, who runs the taxi company.

Jorge Salinas Barrio, a Chilean, escaped from prison where he was serving a sentence for drug dealing. Now he is on the run from the police and has only one thought left. He has good contacts with the drug hubs in Europe and wants to take revenge on those who stole from him and put him behind bars, especially the Yugoslav mafia boss Radovan Kranjic. He would only have to make one final delivery to finally be able to leave the country forever.

Mrado Slovovic, a contract killer and debt collector for the Yugoslav mafia, is hired by Radovan to beat up Jorge because he wants to find out when the next drug delivery will be made. However, JW saves Jorge at the last moment on behalf of Abdulkarim and places him in his apartment for good pay. Jorge promises JW in a personal conversation that he will not forget this help. Meanwhile, Mrado lovingly takes care of his 8-year-old daughter, for whom he has taken custody. So he breaks away from his gang and wants to get out of crime entirely with a final coup.

The Yugoslav mafia is extorting protection money from Abdulkarim's taxi company. Jorge and Abdulkarim want to expand their drug business instead of paying protection money to the Serbs. Jorge has relatives in Germany who can deliver a large amount of drugs. JW is hired to launder the money and generally take care of the bookkeeping. Through his contacts with the upper class, he heard about an investment bank with massive problems. By buying the majority of the shares in this bank through JW, Abdulkarim gains control of the bank and has found an accomplice in money laundering with the bank manager.

They plan to reload and monetize a drug shipment hidden in cabbages . Jorge warns JW that Abdulkarim is no longer dependent on him because JW has already solved all financial problems related to money laundering. There is therefore no longer any reason for Abdulkarim to pay JW. JW now decides to contact Mrado so that he and another gangster on JW's behalf rob the delivery. Mrado previously promised him a million Swedish kronor for it, which he will also receive. However, the project is spiraling out of control. The raid will not go ahead without the use of force, as originally planned. Instead, two of those involved die and others are seriously injured, while JW, who was only slightly injured, is arrested. Jorge is the only one who can escape.

criticism

Jens Lapidus in Hengelo in November 2011.

"Confidently staged and driven by characters that are as complex as they are believable, the exciting film, as a modern" film noir "variant, is convincing about the price of money," is the verdict of the editors of the Lexicon of International Films .

Marian Petraitis von Filmstarts is of the opinion that the “Eurothriller” and “gangster epic” are “an excellently filmed and dramaturgically clean genre contribution, which at the same time lacks courageous story and character design (sic!)”. “With pale and cool blue-tinged images”, cameraman Aril Wretblad “reinterprets Stockholm as an urban juggernaut”. “The precise camera work makes a significant contribution to the fact that» Easy Money «functions as a thriller: Thanks to tactful close-ups, the distance to the protagonists melts away, who rush restlessly through narrow and labyrinthine spaces and stumble towards a total loss of control." "During» Easy Money "On a visual level it is gripping and coherent, the somewhat unimaginative plot and character designs sober, especially in a scenario that is so trimmed to realism", judges Petraitis and awards three out of five possible points.

Awards

Joel Kinnaman won for his portrayal of Johan "JW" Westlund 2011 the Swedish Film Award Guldbagge as Best Actor , while Aril Wretblad for Best Cinematography and Jeanette Klintberg for Best Director was awarded.

At the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2011 Daniél Espinosa was honored with the 10 Directors to Watch Award.

After Warner Bros. acquired the rights during an intense bidding competition that had lasted since the 2010 Berlinale , a remake with Zac Efron as Johan “JW” Westlund is planned. Meanwhile, two Swedish sequels came out, filmed in 2011 and released in theaters in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
