history

The place was probably founded around 650 like the surrounding -heim- places. The place was first mentioned in a document from 1356, in which Hermann Bayern zu Sunthaim guaranteed the Heilsbronn monastery a partial yield from its mill (the Penleinsmühle ) every year . In 1416 the mill itself belonged to the monastery. The place name means "the dwelling in the south" with reference to the royal court in Ickelheim in the north .

At the end of the 18th century there were 15 properties in Sontheim. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth mayor's office in Markt Bergel . The rulership of the village and community was held by the caste office of Windsheim , the imperial city of Windsheim and the manors Obernzenn-Aberdar and -Gutend . The landlords were the Principality of Bayreuth ( Kastenamt Ipsheim : 1 yard, 1 estate; Kastenamt Windsheim: 2 half yards, 1 estate, 1 Sölde ), the Stiftsamt Ansbach (1 Häckersgütlein), the imperial city Windsheim (4 properties), the manor Obernzenn-Aberdar ( 2 half yards, 1 half estate), the manor Obernzenn-Gutend (1 yard halfway, 1 estate halfway) and the Schwarzenbergisches Amt Seehaus (1 yard halfway).

As part of the community edict, Sontheim was assigned to the Westheim tax district formed in 1811 . She also belonged to the rural community Westheim formed in 1817 . The patrimonial courts of Obernzenn-Aberdar and -Gutend held voluntary jurisdiction over four properties until 1848 . On July 1, 1975, the place was incorporated into Illesheim as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
