The Seorak National Park ( 설악산 국립 공원 ) is a national park in the South Korean province of Gangwon-do . In addition to Mount Daecheong (1708 m), the park also includes the Baekdamsa and Sinheungsa temples as well as some waterfalls. Because of its impressive nature, it is not only one of the most popular national parks in South Korea, it is a UNESCO recognized biosphere reserve and the park has tentative status in the list of South Korean World Heritage Sites .
Location and geography
The national park is a few kilometers west of the city of Sokcho. The many tourists from the greater area reach the national park via expressways 46 and 31 . The park is located in the Taebaek , the highest peak of which is the Daecheong. The park extends over the counties of Sokcho, Inje, Goseong and Yangyang. The park is divided into the areas of Inner Seorak, Outer Seorak and Southern Seorak. The park's many attractions also include waterfalls such as the Biryong waterfall (German: flying dragon)
Flora and fauna
1400 different plant species such as edelweiss and over 2000 animal species have been identified in the national park, including deer and otters, as well as the rare long-tailed morale.
Hiking trails
There are many different hiking trails in the national park, as is customary in the national parks in South Korea, they are closed alternately so that nature has the opportunity to relax in the respective places. In the event of heavy snowfall, some of the summit tours can also be blocked for safety reasons.

The Baekdamsa Temple is located in the Inner Seorak area. The complex houses the national treasure No. 1128. It is a wooden Amitabha Buddha statue from 1748, it is considered to be one of the most outstanding statues of that era.
Sinheungsa Temple is located at the main entrance to the national park. In addition to the temple buildings, the Tongil Daebul, the Great Budda of the Reunification, stands out.
