Sound of White Noise is the sixth album by the US thrash metal band Anthrax . The album was released on May 25, 1993 via Elektra Records .

Emergence

The album Sound of White Noise marks a turning point in the band's career. The former and now again Armored Saint singer John Bush took over the vocal position from Joey Belladonna . Musically there is also a slight change. The band's classic Thrash Metal was joined by slight references to grunge . The album was produced by Dave Jerden (including Alice in Chains ) and the band. The song Poison My Eyes , which was used for the soundtrack of the film Last Action Hero , was created during the recording .

The title of the song C 11 H 17 N 2 O 2 S Na refers to the chemical substance thiopental . "Potter's Field" is a cemetery in New York City where the remains of aborted children are buried.

reception

Sound of White Noise entered the US album charts at number seven. This is the highest chart entry for the band to date. For over 500,000 units sold in the US , the album received a gold record from the RIAA . Metallica singer James Hetfield once described the song Only as the "perfect song".

The album was released on CD and LP . There was also a limited CD version with a skull on the jewel case. The Japanese version contains the songs Noisegate , Cowboy Song ( Thin-Lizzy cover version), Auf Wiedersehen ( Cheap-Trick cover version) and Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun ( Beastie Boys cover version). Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun was also used for the sampler The Beavis and Butt-Head -Experience .
