Spencer Abbott (born April 30, 1988 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who is under contract with Leksands IF from the Svenska Hockeyligan in 2019 and plays for them in the position of right winger .
Career
Abbott played during his junior years between 2005 and 2008 first for the Hamilton Red Wings in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League , before he went to the University of Maine for four years to pursue his studies. At the same time, he played for the university's ice hockey team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There he received numerous individual awards.
After completing his studies in March 2012, he was taken undrafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League , which he was in their farm team , the Toronto Marlies , in the American Hockey League for the rest of the 2011/12 season . The striker was part of the farm team until the end of February 2015. During this time, he had only played a game for the Maple Leafs in the NHL in the 2013/14 season . In addition, he was appointed to the AHL Second All-Star Team that game year . In February 2015 Abbott was part of a transfer deal between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks . In exchange for him, TJ Brennan moved to Toronto. The striker was immediately sent to the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL after the move and ended the 2014/15 season there . Despite 27 scorer points in as many games for the IceHogs, the Blackhawks refrained from further engagement.
Abbott moved to Europe before the free agent transfer window opened in July 2015. He had already signed a contract with Frölunda HC from Svenska Hockeyligan in mid-June . The overseas season was extremely successful for the Canadian. In addition to winning the Champions Hockey League , of which he was the top scorer with eight goals, the Indians also won the Swedish championship . With his achievements, the attacker was able to convince his ex-employer from Chicago to bring him back to North America. So Abbott ran again for the IceHogs in the AHL at the beginning of the 2016/17 season . In January 2017 he was on the ice for the Blackhawks for the first time, but soon found himself in the AHL. Kurt before the trade deadline on March 1, 2017, he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks together with Sam Carrick . In return, Kenton Helgesen and a seven-round suffrage in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft moved to Chicago. In the Ducks franchise , he was on the San Diego Gulls farm team . For the 2017/18 season Abbott only received a contract valid for the AHL from the Gulls before they transferred him to league rivals Binghamton Devils in December 2017 .
The striker did not play a game there, however, as he joined EHC Kloten from the Swiss National League that same month .
