The parish church of St. Bartholomew is in Großenstein , a municipality in the administrative community Am Brahmetal in the Thuringian district of Greiz . The Apostle Bartholomew has the patronage . history

The hall church was built in 1294. Until the Reformation , the town's church was incorporated into the Vogtland monastery of Cronschwitz . After the church was restored in 1711, it burned down in 1754. It was rebuilt in 1759. The choir tower was only built in 1784/85. In 1860 the church was extensively renovated , with the tower only being renewed externally. On the north side of the choir was a tomb , on the south side the sacristy grown . From 1964 the interior was renovated again. In 1969 the second upper gallery was removed. In 1971 the tower and nave were newly plastered . In 1994 the nave and tower roof were covered with slate . A 75 cm tall tower ball and a wind direction transmitter were placed on top. In 1995 the roof structure was renewed.

Building description

The nave , separated from the tower, is 21 meters long and 10.5 meters wide. To the north of it, a porch was placed on the tower.

The gable roof of the nave is designed as a crooked hip in the west . The floor plan of the bell tower on the east side is 5 meters by 5.5 meters. The ground floor of the church tower has pilaster strips at the corners and a strongly profiled eaves cornice . The octagonal three-storey superstructure is covered with an onion dome, which is crowned by a lantern .

There are 3 bells hanging in the bell house . The ruins of the bells were collected from under the rubble of the church, which was destroyed by a fire at the time . The three new bells from the Ulrich bell foundry were made from them. The big bell weighs 21 quintals and has a diameter of 126 cm, it sounds in the concert pitch a ′ (435 Hz). The middle bell weighs 11 quintals and has a diameter of 100 cm and the smallest weighs 5.75 quintals and has a diameter of 83 cm.

The nave with its 5 bays opens to the ground floor of the tower through a high triumphal arch . The name 1784 is on it . There are three-sided galleries in the nave . The flat ceiling is divided lengthways and supported by coves , the frames of which are decorated with stucco . The second floor of the galleries was demolished in 1969.

Furnishing

With the reconstruction in 1759 an organ was bought at the same time , which was replaced by a new one in 1804. This organ with 28 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Friedrich Christian Poppe . During the First World War , the tin organ pipes had to be delivered for war purposes. They were replaced by zinc pipes.
