St. Georg (Rimbach)
The St. George's Church in Rimbach is the Catholic church in the Volkach district. It is on Kardinal-Döpfner-Straße in the middle of the village.
history
Rimbach has been handed down as part of the parish of Volkach with the parish church of Maria auf dem Kirchberg as far back as the year 900 . The village later received its own chapel, which was first mentioned in 1447. Its equipment is described in great detail in a visit report of the Rural chapter Gerolzhofen from 1612, at the time of Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn .
The branch church was consecrated to St. Margaretha . It was built from wood and half-timbering. The nave was separated from the choir by a raw iron grille, the floor plan of the church was very small. The nave was held by several passages. The roof was criticized, it was "ghar transparent" and it rained inside.
There were three altars in the church. A Gothic winged altar in the choir was bordered by the wooden figures of St. Margaretha and St. Barbara . The figures of Saints Stephan and Georg stood on the wings . The altarpiece showed the risen Christ. The other altars in the nave had no decoration "or clothing".
In 1612 the equipment of the church was also criticized. The relic , a whole cranium, was accessible to everyone, there was no sacristy and the ossuary was destroyed. Finally, the visitor appealed to the village lords, the Zollner von Halberg , to rebuild their church, as their own ancestors were also located there.
The hoped-for new building did not take place until the years 1669–1715. The Tyrolean Jakob Hueber rebuilt the building, now the church was consecrated to St. George. In 1790 the village applied for its own parish. On June 14, 1791, Prince-Bishop Franz Ludwig zu Erthal approved an independent curate. In 1812 the Georgskirche became a branch of Volkach again before it finally became independent in 1860.
The building was restored in 1910 . The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation classifies the church building as a monument under the number D-6-75-174-303. The underground remains of previous buildings are listed as soil monuments.
architecture
The St. George's Church is a hall building with a retracted choir. The roof turret is located above the western portal wall and consists of a four-sided bell tower and an onion-shaped dome . On the outer wall of the choir there are epitaphragms from the year 1530. The inscription reads: "1530 on Sant George Day, Hans Zolner zu Rimpach, Wirczburgischer Rat de got g (enad)". The building is divided into three window axes.
Furnishing
The oldest preserved piece of equipment is the Gothic tabernacle in the choir. It was created in 1502 and bears the relief of Christ in the arched field . Further epitaphs inside the choir were dedicated to children of the Zollner family in 1528. The classicistic high altar from 1790 consists of a simple tabernacle structure , which is surrounded by praying angels.
The side altars were also built at the same time. They have niches with figures in the middle. On the left is the Mother of God and on the right is Christ . Both are framed by figures of saints, on the left of Joseph and Anna and on the right of St. Michael and St. Notburga . A way of the cross runs around the interior of the church. The medallions date from the beginning of the 20th century.
A crucifix hovers in a stucco cloud above the choir entrance . A memorial to the fallen is on the right wall of the nave. The pulpit of the church was built in 1700 , the font in front of the choir shows the year 1716.
