In the middle of the 18th century, the church was redesigned in the Rococo style and decorated with frescoes by Johann Anwander .

history

The patronage of St. Michael indicates a very old parish . A "plebanus de Bechingen" (resident of Bechingen) is mentioned in a document from the Kaisheim monastery from 1216. The church patronage , which had previously been held by the Staufer Vogtei Hagel, came to the Dominican convent of Obermedlingen in 1370 and, after the dissolution of the monastery during the Reformation, to the Ulm patrician family of Roth von Schreckenstein . The latter had the builder Gilg Vältin rebuild the choir and nave in 1595/96 . Until the reinstatement of the Obermedlingen Monastery, St. Michael was a branch church of Bachhagel .

Frescoes

The entire ceiling of the nave is covered by the fresco depicting the Last Judgment . In the middle Jesus is enthroned on a rainbow, at his feet St. Michael the blessed. A chalice with a host, a book, the tiara , the papal cross and a key are depicted under a mighty dome , the symbols of the papacy and the Catholic Church . The scenes in the side grisaille relate to the work of St. Michael and are inscribed ( this place is protected , the angels He falls , Adam persecutes , cares for the sick ).

The stucco frescoes on the balustrade show angels playing music in the middle. The left picture shows King David playing the harp, the right picture St. Cecilia at the organ.
