The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Pankratius in Unterglaim , a district of the market town Ergolding in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut , is a late Gothic hall church that was built around 1494. While the choir and tower are still in their original condition, the nave was demolished in the Baroque period and rebuilt in line with contemporary tastes. The Pfeffenhausen master mason Hans Widtmann was responsible for this construction, which was carried out around 1710 . Building repairs by the master mason Joseph Dirlinger from Rottenburg are documented for the year 1775 . The rather rare patronage of St. Pankratius , who is considered one of the " ice saints ", is celebrated on May 12th. The Unterglaim branch church is assigned to the parish of the Assumption of Mary in Oberglaim .

architecture

Exterior construction

The small, completely whitewashed hall building faces east . The late Gothic choir comprises three bays and an end in three sides of the octagon . It contains pointed arch windows with two-lane tracery and is structured by buttresses and a roof frieze. The simple, baroque nave with a small porch extends to the west . It is the same width as the choir. The massive, four-storey tower with an almost square floor plan is designed as a so-called choir flank tower and adjoins the presbytery to the south. The sacristy is located on the ground floor . The lower three floors, including the first floor, are broken up by pointed arches; the top floor contains the bell cage and the graceful, ogival sound openings . A strongly constricted onion cap with a ball and cross forms the upper end.

inner space

The choir is spanned by a late Gothic net rib vault. The pear-shaped ribs arise partly from head consoles , some with banners, and partly from foliage consoles. At the top of the vault there are three four-pass keystones : the eastern one is the largest and contains a relief of the church patron Pankratius, the middle one a relief of St. Sebastian , the western one a heraldic shield . The transition to the flat-roofed , equally wide nave is mediated by a pointed choir arch . On the ceiling of the nave there is an elongated, popular fresco from 1748. It depicts the martyrdom of St. Sebastian, who looks up to a depiction of the Immaculate Conception of Mary floating in the clouds .

Furnishing

High altar

The high altar from 1680 was replaced by today's walnut altar in 1717/18. The four supporting columns and the acanthus tendril on the side flank the altar panel with a richly figured depiction of the decapitation of St. Pancras. The oval excerpt , flanked by two volutes , shows the baby Jesus with the cross, trampling the snake that surrounds the globe with his foot. Above the tabernacle there is a small figure of Mary with the baby Jesus .

Other equipment

The simply crafted pulpit is a work from the Baroque period, as are the numerous votive tablets from the 18th century, which document a once lively pilgrimage to St. Pankratius in Unterglaim. In addition, the choir arch cross and the fourteen cross-way panels are worth mentioning.

Bells

In the belfry two historical are bells hung: the older, late gothic bell dates back to 1494, so even from the time it was built the church. It has a diameter of 63 centimeters and bears the inscription da pacem domine diebus (Latin: "Give peace, Lord, in our days"). The other bell is the former Marienglocke from the parish church of Oberglaim. This was cast in 1676 and contains an image of Mary and a crucifixion. The inscription is S. Maria pro nobis 1676 - Christoph Ferdinandt Hueber in Landtshuedt gos mich .
