history

The SSV Altenberg eV was founded on October 3rd, 1992 from the merger of two clubs. The SSV has had around 500 members since it was founded, which makes it one of the largest sports clubs in Saxony .

The club is the federal and state base for biathlon , luge and bobsleigh because of its various team athletes, its state performance center and its sports facilities . The association is also a branch of the Chemnitz / Dresden Olympic base and a mountain bike talent base . The mountain bike section also appears externally as “Mounty Altenberg” . The training center is the state performance center and the "Bergstadt Altenberg". In recent years, the sports club has been honored with the “Green Ribbon” from Dresdner Bank and the “Josef Ertl Prize” from the German Ski Association for its work with young talent.

In the course of its history and the history of the previous clubs, the club's athletes won various medals at championships in the GDR and the FRG. There are also three Olympic victories as well as 44 titles at world championships and 11 titles at European championships.

On October 1, 2015, the luge division was spun off and merged with the newly founded RRC Altenberg .
