Stefan Minkwitz (born June 1, 1968 in Magdeburg ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach.

Athletic career

Stefan Minkwitz began playing football at BSG Traktor Niederndodeleben , switched to 1. FC Magdeburg as a junior player and then played for Börde Rottmersleben from 1976 to 1981 . At the age of 13 he returned to 1. FC Magdeburg. He was first used in the FCM's league team on November 7, 1987, after which the 1.72 m tall midfielder was able to quickly develop into a regular player. By 1992 Minkwitz had completed 110 point games for FCM, 38 of them in the first post-turnaround season in the third-class amateur league , and eleven national cup games. He came to a total of 16 goals. He played his three UEFA Cup games for Magdeburg in the 1990/91 season in the 1st and 2nd round against the Finnish team Rovaniemi PS (0; 0, 1: 0) and in the first leg against Girondins Bordeaux (0: 1) ).

In 1990 Minkwitz was used in two games of the GDR national team : on March 28, 1990 GDR– USA (3: 2) and on April 11, 1990 GDR– Egypt (2: 0).

In 1992 Minkwitz moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for MSV Duisburg . A year later he played with the Stuttgarter Kickers , from 1994 with Fortuna Düsseldorf . With Fortuna Minkwitz made promotion to the Bundesliga in 1995 , but switched back to the Stuttgarter Kickers in 1996. There Minkwitz played until 2004 (from 2001 Regionalliga Süd ), where he ended his active career. Until June 2007 Minkwitz acted as assistant coach for the Swabians . At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he took over as coach of the A-Juniors, who played in the U-19 Bundesliga .

On November 4, 2007, he was promoted to head coach after the previous coach Peter Zeidler was on leave with immediate effect after a sporting downturn. Minkwitz managed with the Kickers the qualification for the new 3rd division . After the seventh game day of the following season, he was suspended on September 21, 2008 after six defeats in seven games. As part of his training as a trainer, Minkwitz completed an internship at SSV Reutlingen from January 2010 and took on the role of head coach on April 15, 2010 after the previous head coach Roland Seitz had switched to Eintracht Trier . After only one game - a 3-0 home defeat against SC Freiburg II - Minkwitz handed over responsibility to a quartet consisting of the players Andreas Rill, Jens Härter, Manuel Waidmann and Tobias Linse . From the beginning of May 2010 to the end of November 2011 Minkwitz was the coach of the district league club SV Hoffeld.

After a break of several years, the regional league club SV Elversberg signed Minkwitz as assistant coach to Willi Kronhardt in the summer of 2014 . For a long time the club was promisingly placed on the promotion places, but slipped towards the end of the season after weaker games in the table. As a result, Kronhardt was released from his duties in early May 2015, and Minkwitz looked after the team until the end of the season.

In the summer of 2017, Minkwitz returned to the football business again and took over the position of assistant coach for the German U-16 national team alongside head coach Michael Feichtenbeiner .

Private

Stefan Minkwitz is a trained machine system fitter. Since he could no longer use the knowledge from the GDR, he began retraining as a sports and fitness clerk in 2010 . Minkwitz has been a football coach with an A license since 2007 (for coaching tasks in the higher amateur area and in the regional league). He lives in Leonberg . His son Ronny is also a soccer player.
