Stefan Schwab (born September 27, 1990 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

Stefan Schwab started his career in the youth department of the 1. Saalfeldner SK and moved to Salzburg to the BNZ at the age of 14 . On March 6, 2009 he made his debut in the second team of FC Red Bull Salzburg , the Red Bull Juniors , when he played the full 90 minutes in the 20th round of the game against 1. FC Vöcklabruck . Another nine games followed, in which he contributed two goals before he was a regular for the Juniors. In the 2009/10 season he was part of the team under coach Niko Kovač and was awarded to FC Lustenau 07 for six months after being relegated . With the Vorarlbergers he became a leading player in a short time and was also voted “Young Star of the Month” in October 2010.

In January 2011 he moved on loan with the option to buy for summer 2011 to the league leaders in the first division , FC Admira Wacker Mödling . With the Admirans he rose to the Bundesliga as champions of the first division . In June 2011 Admira Wacker exercised the purchase option.

In June 2014 Schwab moved to SK Rapid Vienna . There he received a contract running until the summer of 2017, the term of which was later extended to 2020. He has been the team captain since summer 2017. After six years and 183 Bundesliga appearances for the Viennese, he left the club after the end of his contract after the 2019/20 season.

He then moved to Greece to PAOK Thessaloniki for the 2020/21 season , where he received a contract that ran until June 2022.

National team

His first appearance for Austria was on April 1, 2009 in the U-19 international match between Belgium and Austria. The game was won 2-0 and Schwab played the full 90 minutes. Two U-20 national team games followed before he was part of the U-21 national team . He made his debut for the U-21s on October 9, 2010 in the game against Sweden , the game ended 3-2 for Austria. On September 29, 2015, team boss Marcel Koller appointed him to the senior national team for the first time .

On November 14, 2017, he made his debut under Franco Foda in a friendly against Uruguay in the national team, when he came on for Marcel Sabitzer in the 90th minute .
