Steinsdorf

Steinsdorf is a district of the Altmannstein market in the Eichstätt district .

location

The village lies in the middle of the wooded slopes of the Jura in a small valley basin.

history

A "Stainesdorf" was first mentioned in a document in 955 ; whether it is the stone village south of the Schambach valley on the Jura height is not certain. The next documented mention of "Pero von Steinesdorf" comes from the year 1120.

In the eventful history of the place, Dietrich von Hexenagger , the Biburg Abbey , Dietrich von Mendorf , the Schambach (Kipfenberg) church and the St. Emmeram Regensburg monastery were rulers of the village until it became the property of the Muggenthalers in 1427, Lords of Sandersdorf passed over. During the Thirty Years War Steinsdorf was occupied twice by the Swedes (1632 and 1645), which brought immeasurable hardship over the village.

In 1704 Franz Ignaz von Muggenthal built a small castle in Steinsdorf, which was torn down in 1910. The rule of the Muggenthalers over Steinsdorf lasted until around 1780. The last of the family was Felix Karl, canon at St. Martin in Landshut , owner of Steinsdorf, which he sold to the University of Ingolstadt .

Up until 1882, the Steinsdorf children had to go to school in Mendorf, then the town received its own school, which lasted until it was incorporated into the Sandersdorf school association in 1970.

Steinsdorf had a railway connection with the station of the same name on the Ingolstadt – Riedenburg railway line . Passenger traffic existed between May 1, 1903 and the final cessation of operations on May 28, 1972.

In 1939 the village had 339 inhabitants. During the Bavarian regional reform , Steinsdorf was incorporated into the Altmannstein market on January 1, 1972. On March 15, 2007 the population was 591. In 2008 a community center for the 18 associations in the village was inaugurated.

Local church

The branch church belonging to the parish of Sollern is dedicated to St. Martin and was built in 1770. Renovations took place in 1871 and 1901. Inside there is a tombstone for Felix von Muggenthal († 1735). In 1981 the church was expanded due to the increase in population; Architect Blasius Spreng built a new building parallel to the old longitudinal building and connected the two harmoniously. On March 3, 2017, there was a major fire in the church, which significantly damaged the church. Among other things, the roof trusses of both naves burned down completely.
