production

The series was originally supposed to be called Common Room , but was then named after Studio C in the BYU broadcasting building where the series is filmed. Most of the skits are filmed in front of a live audience. A separate, usually very elaborate set is built for each sketch and the actors receive extensive costumes and makeup. All skits are shot with multiple cameras (multi-camera). A large production team takes care of all affairs, with Jared Shores as the main producer and Derek Marquis and Scott Swofford as executive producers. In 2013, the main cast starred in the music video for "On Top of the World" by Imagine Dragons . In February 2017, parts of the cast were interviewed by Conan O'Brien on his late night show Conan .

Guest appearances included Shawn Bradley , Mates of State (several times), Stars , Steve Young (several times), Peter Hollens , The Piano Guys , Kaskade , Shay Carl and Lucky Blue Smith .

Youtube channel

Studio C's YouTube channel is very well known and has over 1,300,000 subscribers. The 682 previously published skits have been viewed over 837,000,000 times (as of February 2017). So far four live events have taken place: "Leave No Fan Behind" and "Christmas Special Live Event", in which the cast plays games, performs skits and answers questions from fans, as well as Studio C Celebrates 500K YouTube Subscribers and 1 Million Subs = CHALLENGE TIME !! ! in which the actors compete against each other in a series of games to celebrate a reached number of subscribers. Some of her skits are only published exclusively on YouTube. In late 2016, the channel released compilations of Studio C's best music, school, Halloween, sports, and Christmas videos. Studio C publishes new skits on YouTube every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The most watched videos on the channel are Top Soccer Shootout Ever With Scott Sterling (Original) and Best Volleyball Blocks Ever with Scott Sterling with 77 and 59 million views respectively (as of August 22, 2020). The former is about the soccer goalkeeper Scott Sterling (played by Matt Meese), who is unlikely to get the ball shot five times in the face during a penalty shoot-out and is then cheered as a hero. In the sequel to this, Sterling has switched to volleyball, but gets every single shot of the opponent in the face until the game is won. Both games are commented on by moderators. Other popular videos include a collaboration with Brooklyn and Bailey (8.4 million views), a musical Avengers parody starring Peter Hollens (5.1 million views), a dramatic millionaire question in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (4.6 million views) and the three musical Tribute von Panem parodies Katniss' Song , Peeta's Song and Gale's Song (together 7.3 million views).

occupation

Studio C's main cast consists of 10 actors.

Matt Meese

Matthew Meese (born October 10, 1983 in New Jersey ) grew up in Phoenix , Arizona and studied psychology at BYU. He co-founded Studio C with Jared Shores in 2012 by asking BYUtv to produce a professional sketch comedy series from the theater company Divine Comedy. He is one of the main authors of the series and plays in many skits, often as the bad guy or in roles that require speaking quickly or being athletic or agile (such as the Shoulder Angel or Scott Sterling , his most famous role) or as a couple with Mallory Everton. Together with Jeremy Warner, he is the best-known of the group and played in a well-known commercial. Meese lives with Adam Berg and Stacey Harkey and is color blind.

Jason Gray

Jason Gray (born August 2, 1985 in Boise , Idaho ) made sketch comedy videos in his youth and studied dentistry at BYU. He is a sketch writer and also plays in many sketches, often he plays crazy or impersonalized famous personalities / fictional characters (e.g. Batman, the Joker, Severus Snape, Dobby, Gollum, Gandalf, Emperor Palpatine, ...). He has been posting vlogs on the family YouTube channel Amazing Grays since February 2017 . Gray has a daughter, Alice, with his wife, Jenny.

Whitney Call

Whitney Call (June 2, 1987 in Provo , Utah ) grew up in Portland , Oregon and studied arts at BYU. She co-founded the BYU theater media arts division. She is also involved in many skits, often playing older women or mothers (e.g. Ann Withers). In 2013 she married her Studio C colleague Stephen Meek, their child was born in December 2015.

Mallory Everton

Mallory Everton (born September 20, 1989 in Portland , Oregon ) grew up in Oregon and first studied medicine at BYU, but obtained her degree in film studies. Like Meese, Gray and Call, she takes part in many skits, often singing or playing pregnant women and crazy people (Katniss Everdeen, Lady Shadow, Aww Yeah woman). In the skits she often plays a couple with Matt Meese who have become very popular among fans. Like Meese, she also starred in a well-known commercial.

Jeremy Warner

Jeremy Warner (born July 18, 1985 in Idaho Falls , Idaho ) is of Filipino origin and studied film at BYU. He is a member of the Angel Murkurker acting group and was in the band Hot Parents . For Studio C he is an actor, director, writer and producer. However, he has only been the main actor since season 5 and plays in far fewer skits in which his trademark, his bushy mustache, which is prepared for every sketch, often plays a role (e.g. Just Jeremy). Warner has worked on several film productions and has made short films himself, so he and Matt Meese are the best-known of the group. On his YouTube channel, Warner regularly publishes vlogs in which he reports on his personal life. He is married to Catey Joy Warner and has two children.

Stephen Meek

Stephen Meek (born November 19, 1988 in Hobbs , New Mexico ) grew up in New Mexico and, like five other cast members, has only been part of the main cast since 2014 (he also played in sketches before, but less often). He often plays children or the only sensible person in the sketch (his best-known role is Peeta Mellark in a Hunger Games parody). He has been married to fellow actor Whitney Call since 2013 and has a son named Theodore with her.

Natalie Madsen

Natalie Madsen (born May 23, 1985 in Rochester , Minnesota ) has also been the main cast member since season 5 and has been a writer and actress for Studio C since 2012. She often plays the role of the sporty or beautiful woman (e.g. in "Bad Boy Rap") or "She Loves You, Bro!"). She is married and has a daughter and a son.

James Perry

James Perry (born February 27, 1987 in Sacramento , California ) grew up as the middle of seven children in California and played in several plays and short films as a teenager. He joined Divine Comedy while studying mechanical engineering at BYU, and after graduating he worked as a software engineer. He has been the lead actor since 2014 and often plays bystanders in skits who are drawn into a situation or eccentrics (such as his best-known role, the lobster bisque guy). In August 2015 he married Brenna Philips.

Stacey Harkey

Stacey Harkey (born August 19, 1981 in Plano , Texas ) spent his childhood with his single mother in Dallas . Like everyone else, he has been a member of Studio C since 2012 and has also been a main cast member since the fifth season. He often plays members of groups or people giving a speech (as in "Passive Aggressive Pastor" and "A Bike's Rights"). In collaborations with other Youtubers, he occasionally moderates or raps. He lives with Matt Meese and Adam Berg.

Adam Berg

Adam Berg (born August 16, 1989 in American Fork , Utah ) studied communication science at BYU and became a member of Divine Comedy. He has been the lead actor since 2014, but (like the entire cast) has been there from the start. He often plays people in dilemmas or depressives (for example Prince Charming or the Black Crayon). He is particularly well known on Instagram . His twin sister also sometimes appears in skits. Berg lives in an apartment with Meese and Harkey.
