action

In a secret research facility called Project Pegasus , the SHIELD organization is working on using the tesseract (see Captain America: The First Avenger ) as an inexhaustible source of energy. However, the cube from Asgard is also an interdimensional portal opener , and an alien power, the Chitauri, wants to use it to conquer the earth. To this end, they have made an alliance with the sir Loki , who knows the secrets of the cube (see Thor ). With his scepter , Loki opens a portal inside Project Pegasus through the tesseract , penetrates the facility and after a short fight kills some of the project's employees and Dr. Mind-controlled Selvig and SHIELD special agent Clint Barton (Hawkeye) . With their help, he takes the tesseract and escapes from the facility, which is then completely destroyed by the portal that has become unstable.

With the help of his agents Phil Coulson and Black Widow , Nick Fury , director of SHIELD, is recruiting several superheroes to help him recover the tesseract: the brilliant inventor Tony Stark and the gamma-ray expert Dr. Bruce Banner . Together with Captain America , they try to find a trace of the tesseract at the headquarters of SHIELD, an airworthy aircraft carrier called Helicarrier , which emits a faint gamma-ray signature.

A short time later, Loki and Hawkeye show up in Stuttgart to steal a sample of iridium . The superheroes confront Loki, who surrenders surprisingly quickly, and set off for the helicarrier. On the way, Thor intercepts them, who has come to Earth to bring Loki and the Tesseract back to Asgard. After a brief exchange of blows with Iron Man over responsibility for Loki, Thor joins the superheroes. Arriving on the Helicarrier, Loki is locked in a special prison cell, but he refuses to divulge any information. However, Stark and Banner recognize that Loki wants to use the tesseract to create a portal. The stolen iridium is supposed to act as a stabilizer to keep the portal from becoming as unstable as it was with Project Pegasus .

Loki's capture soon turns out to be part of a devious plan. While Hawkeye, who is still controlled by Loki, infiltrates the helicarrier with some helpers and prepares sabotage, Loki sparked disputes between the superheroes with his manipulative skills. They have since found out that Fury wanted to use the powers of the tesseract to set up an arsenal of super weapons, which should arm the earth against an impending invasion of extraterrestrial forces. Incited by Loki's influence, the Hulk eventually breaks into Dr. Banner off and begins a rampage on the ship. At the same time, Hawkeye puts two of the helicarrier's turbines out of action, which threatens to crash, keeping Captain America and Iron Man busy, while Black Widow Hawkeye and Thor face the Hulk in a duel. Although it is possible Black Widow, Hawkeye knockout. To strike and to free him here by the thought control, but the Hulk is the fight overboard. Loki breaks out of his cell, fatally wounds Coulson, locks Thor in the cell and lets him crash before he makes off unmolested.

Shocked by the news of Coulson's death, Captain America and Iron Man put their quarrel aside. They find out that Loki wants to open the portal on the newly built Stark Tower in New York in order to use its arc reactor (see Iron Man ) as an energy source. When the heroes arrive, the portal is already open and the Chitauri forces begin their attack on Earth. While the superheroes fend off the first onslaught, Thor and the Hulk join in, who have survived their fall to earth unharmed. However, as more and more enemy forces pour out of the portal, the Security Council , to which SHIELD is subject , decides , despite Fury's objection and regardless of the potential victims, to eliminate the threat posed by a nuclear missile. Alarmed by Fury, Iron Man intercepts the rocket in flight and steers it through the portal, where it destroys the Chitauri mother ship on the other side, thereby shutting down their combat units. With Selvig's help, freed from Loki's control, Black Widow closes the portal immediately after the unconscious Iron Man falls through and falls to Earth, where the Hulk catches him. Loki has to admit defeat to the Avengers in the end.

While the discovery of the Avengers' existence attracts a great deal of publicity, the superheroes split up. However, Director Fury is confident that they will come together again when a new danger strikes the earth. Thor returns to Asgard with Loki and the Tesseract.

In the credits you can see how somewhere in space the leader of the Chitauri warns the real initiator of the invasion of another attack on Earth, the galactic conqueror Thanos .

In the post-credit scene , the Avengers team is sitting in a restaurant in the middle of the devastated New York city center and silently indulging in a shawarma meal together , as Iron Man wished for after the final battle.

Important figures

Captain America

( → Main article: Captain America: The First Avenger )

Steven G. "Steve" Rogers or Captain America ( Chris Evans ) was originally a frail young man from the New York district of Brooklyn , who in 1943 tried several times without success, the US Army to join and in the Second World War to fight, but because of his physical disability has been repeatedly rejected. Eventually Steve was chosen to be the subject of a secret military experiment that transformed him from a small, frail person into a tall, muscular man. With a uniform and a shield made by Tony Stark's father 'Howard' , which is made of a rare, almost indestructible (fictional) metal called vibranium, he finally became a superhero as "Captain America" . However, while trying to prevent a bomber from destroying New York, Steve crashed the plane in the Arctic Circle . It was not until 70 years later that the plane was recovered, and Steve, who had spent all these years in cryostasis , found himself in a world alien to him.

As a result of the experiment in which he participated, not only his physical appearance but also his character traits were enhanced. As a result, Rogers became a man with unshakable moral principles, who always sees the good in humanity and therefore never gives it up without a fight.

Iron man

( → Main article: Iron Man (film) )

Anthony "Tony" Stark or Iron Man ( Robert Downey Jr. ) is the son of the industrialist Howard Stark and was managing director of Stark Industries for a long time after the death of his father. Tony has been an ingenious inventor since childhood and, as an adult, has the reputation of a risk-taking playboy with a huge ego and god complex. One of the basic ideas behind the portrayal of the role is that of a "modern Howard Hughes ". Since the film Iron Man, Tony's chest has been home to an " arc reactor" that he developed , originally intended to save his life and later also used as an energy source for high-tech armor that Tony also developed . With the help of the armor, Tony became a superhero, whom the media named "Iron Man" (German: "Eisenmann"), and at a press conference Tony finally confessed to the public that he was Iron Man himself. In the sequel, Iron Man 2 , palladium , one of the main constituents of the Arc reactor, slowly threatened to poison his blood, but Tony eventually managed to synthesize a new element that would be an effective substitute for the palladium, and thus Tony's health problems put an end to it. In the meantime, Nick Fury, head of SHIELD intelligence, had made him an offer to join the "Avengers Initiative" he was planning, but since Tony had behaved increasingly erratic in the certainty that he would not live long, Fury finally offered him for the time being only a position as a consultant.

Thor

( → Main article: Thor (film) )

Thor Odinson ( Chris Hemsworth ) is an Ase from the world of Asgard and was onceworshipedby the Vikings as the god of thunder . His weapon is his war hammer, Mjolnir , forged in the core of a dying star that returns in Thor's hand after each throw and allows himto create hurricanes , hurl lightning bolts and fly. In the movie Thor , Thor's father Odin banishedhis son to earth to teach him a lesson in humility. On Earth, Thor made the acquaintance of the scientist Erik Selvig and the secret service SHIELD. When it became clear that the reason for Thor's exile was due to a plot by his brother Loki, Thor was ready to sacrifice his life to save the people, the Loki endangered while trying to kill his brother. Ultimately, Thor returned to Asgard to stop Loki, but had todestroy the Bifröst rainbow bridgethat connects Asgard with the earth and other areas of the universe - knowing that he can no longer return to Jane. At the end of the fight, Loki fell into the abyss under the bridge.

Thor's return to earth traces Loki back to Odin, who in his opinion must have used a lot of black magic.

Hulk

( → Main article: The Incredible Hulk (film) )

The Hulk / Dr. Bruce Banner ( Mark Ruffalo , Hulk voice of Lou Ferrigno ) was originally a scientist working on behalf of the military on a remake of the project that Steve Rogers owed his powers to. To do this, he subjected himself to a self-experiment and for this purpose exposed himself to a larger (and actually fatal) amount of gamma radiation . However, the experiment turned him into a superhumanly strong, instinct-driven green being who is guided solely by his feelings. In the movie The Incredible Hulk is Banner hiding from the military, trying to learn to keep his emotions under control as he at increased pulse - triggered for example by anger, fear or excitement - at any time in the green monster that the media finally baptized with the name “Hulk” (German: “Colossus”), can transform. However, when a soldier was transformed into the even more monstrous Abomination ("abomination") in an attempt to stop Banner, Banner decided to purposely transform himself into the Hulk. As such, he eventually managed to stop Abomination. At the end of the film, Bruce found refuge in British Columbia , Canada, and now tried not to suppress the Hulk any longer, but to consciously transform himself into it and possibly even to control it.

The Hulk is emotional and instinctive, but by no means indiscriminate in his actions. He fights people who have wronged him or endanger him or friends, while he does not intentionally harm bystanders.

Black Widow

The Black Widow / Natasha Romanoff ( Scarlett Johansson ) was a SHIELD agent in the film Iron Man 2 who was smuggled into Stark Industries to monitor Tony Stark. After Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD, explained to Tony who Natasha really works for, she broke into a factory owned by Hammer Industries, a competitor to Stark Industries, which she suspected was Tony's opponent. She wrote an assessment of Tony Stark, which led to the fact that he was initially only offered a position as a consultant on the Avengers team.

Prior to SHIELD, Romanoff was a KGB-trained professional killer. The SHIELD agent Barton / Hawkeye, who was assigned to kill her, defied the order and instead offered to work for his organization.

Hawk Eye

Hawkeye / Clint Barton ( Jeremy Renner ) wasan agent of the SHIELD secret servicein the movie Thor , whose weapon of choice was a recurve bow (in Thor hecan be seenwith a compound bow ). He has amazingly good eyesight, very good hand-eye coordination, and possesses a variety of different arrows, the effects of which range from explosions to electric shocks.

Loki

Loki ( Tom Hiddleston ) grew up believing he was the son of Odin , King of Asgard, and thus Thor's brother. In fact, he is the son of Laufey , the king of the ice giants from Jotunheim , who was abandoned as a child by his father, whereupon Odin had adopted him as his own son. As an adult, Loki is known as a mischief maker and master of magic, and in the film Thor , envious of his brother, he finally devised a plan to instigate a conflict between Asgard and Jotunheim in the hope of rising in Odin's favor. When he finally found out about his true origin, he tried to destroy Jotunheim in order to permanently erase the last traces of his origin. However, Thor stood in his way and eventually destroyed the rainbow bridge Bifröst. Odin and Thor then tried to save Loki, but when the latter realized that Odin did not approve of his actions, he threw himself into the abyss under the bridge. In a scene after the end credits of the film it could be seen that Loki survived and came to earth, where he influences the person Erik Selvig.

Other

Nick Fury ( Samuel L. Jackson ) is the head of the fictional intelligence agency SHIELD and the driving force behind bringing the Avengers together.

Phil Coulson ( Clark Gregg ) is a SHIELD agent and has previously dealt with Tony Stark and Thor. His assassination by Loki finally brings the Avengers initiative together. In the MCU context, he was later resuscitated at the direction of Nick Fury.

Maria Hill ( Cobie Smulders ) is also a SHIELD agent and makes her first appearance in Marvel's The Avengers .

Erik Selvig ( Stellan Skarsgard ) is a scientist in the movie Thor was among the first people who met Thor to Earth after his exile. For a long time he doubted that Thor was actually the god of thunder from Norse mythology , but eventually changed his mind when Thor regained his full strength. During the film, Selvig hinted that he had previous experience with the SHIELD secret service, and in a post-credits scene, he is finally taken to SHIELD headquarters, where Nick Fury asks him for help investigating a mysterious artifact . It turns out that Selvig is under the influence of Loki, which Fury does not notice.

Virginia "Pepper" Potts ( Gwyneth Paltrow ) is Tony Stark's personal assistant and close confidante. By the end of Iron Man 2 , she became Tony's partner and partner in developing his latest projects.

Jarvis (voice of Paul Bettany ) is an artificial intelligence that controls all systems in Tony Stark's house and workshop and often speaks with a sarcastic undertone when interacting with Tony.

Emergence

Unlike the two other known Marvel - superhero team , the X-Men and the Fantastic Four (old German Translation: "The Fantastic Four"), whose members had their first comic performances as part of their respective teams, there is a special feature of the Avengers (old German translation: "The Avengers") in the fact that their best-known members were initially known as independent superheroes and the team, according to a slogan often used on the covers of the comics, formed an association of the "most powerful heroes in the world" (in the original "Earth's Mightiest Heroes ”). Since Marvel had given the rights to film adaptations of its own comics to various studios over many decades, a film adaptation of the Avengers comics was unlikely for a long time.

It was only in the wake of the success of the Spider-Man and X-Men films that Marvel decided to venture a new strategy for future comic adaptations: Due to retrospectively disadvantageous contracts that had been concluded in the 1990s, Marvel had only low license income for Be able to book film versions of your own comics. Future films should therefore by extending the publisher's own Marvel Studios , who previously acted only as a licensor to an actual film production company allow greater profits for Marvel, while Paramount Pictures should take over the distribution. Marvel took out a $ 525 million loan from Merrill Lynch to fund this venture . Marvel also wanted to keep more creative control over the film adaptations in this way and ensure that the actions and representations of the characters did not differ too much from the comic books. One of the basic ideas behind the new approach was that all films that would be produced by Marvel Studios, similar to the comic models, should play in a coherent universe, which should enable crossovers and appearances of the same characters in different films. Kevin Feige , President of Production at Marvel Studios, named this universe the "Marvel Cinematic Universe".

In April 2005, Avi Arad , then managing director of Marvels, announced that he was planning a film about the Avengers. In September 2006, Marvel revealed more concrete plans as part of a presentation for Wall Street analysts: For example, films should first be produced in which individual superheroes are introduced and then later merged in an Avengers film. Concrete projects planned were films about Iron Man , Captain America , Thor and Ant-Man as well as a new Hulk film, which at that time was still being considered as a sequel to Hulk (2003). The films Iron Man (2008), the sequel Iron Man 2 (2010), The Incredible Hulk (2008), which was now independent of Hulk (2003), as well as Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First were finally realized Avenger (2011). The Thor sequel Thor - The Dark Kingdom was released in German cinemas on October 31, 2013 .

In June 2007, Zak Penn , the screenwriter of The Incredible Hulk , was confirmed as the screenwriter for The Avengers . During the Writers Guild of America strike , which lasted from November 2007 to February 2008, Marvel reached a tentative agreement with the WGA in January 2008 to continue work on The Avengers . Following the release of Iron Man , which became a box office hit, Marvel officially announced The Avengers for July 2011. In September 2008, Marvel renewed an existing contract with Paramount Pictures , giving Paramount the worldwide distribution rights to five more Marvel films, including The Avengers .

In October 2008, Marvel officially announced that Robert Downey Jr. would also play his role as Tony Stark / Iron Man, which he played in the films Iron Man and Iron Man 2 , in The Avengers . In addition, Don Cheadle should be seen again in his role as James Rhodes, which he had already played in Iron Man 2 , while Jon Favreau , the director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 , should take over the role of executive producer of The Avengers . Cheadle later confirmed that while he was contractually bound to The Avengers , Marvel had waived his role. In February 2009, Samuel L. Jackson signed a deal with Marvel that stipulated that he would play the role of Nick Fury, which he first played in Iron Man , in a total of nine films, including The Avengers . In March 2009, Scarlett Johansson was confirmed as the star of Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2 . At the same time it was announced that she would play the same role in The Avengers . At almost the same time, the official film launch was postponed from July 15, 2011 to May 4, 2012.

Other lead roles confirmed include Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor . Edward Norton did not slip into the role of the Hulk because the studio accused him of "lack of teamwork and passion for the role", so he was replaced by Mark Ruffalo . In addition, Cobie Smulders joined the SHIELD team.

After Jeremy Renner drew attention to himself with the film Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker , it was speculated that he would become a newcomer as Hawkeye. That rumor was later confirmed and Renner made his debut in this role in Thor through a cameo .

Filming locations were the Grumman Aerospace Factory in Los Angeles , Michigan , New Mexico and the Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios . Filming began in February 2011, but the beginning has been postponed to April 25, 2011.

An excerpt from the script accidentally made it onto the Internet long before the film was released. In late 2010, the Albuquerque Journal also wrote that the Avengers would have to face two different alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree. However, this was a rumor.

After the movie trailer was available for download on iTunes on the first day , it broke the record for most downloads within the first 24 hours. However, this was later broken again by direct competitor The Dark Knight Rises . On February 29th, another trailer was released that broke the record again.

Reference to the template

The original comic version of the Avengers (called "The Avengers" in German translations of the comics until 2011) from the 1960s, unlike the film version, was not founded on the initiative of the US government . However, it was also in the comics that Loki first brought the founding members together by manipulating the Hulk to get revenge on Thor for an earlier defeat. In the end, however, the superheroes Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp as well as Thor and the Hulk thwarted his plans and then decided to found a team together, the "Avengers". In the second issue, however, there were conflicts between Iron Man and the Hulk. At the end of the booklet the latter left the team and in the third booklet even became an opponent of the Avengers. In the fourth issue, the remaining team members finally found Captain America at the Arctic Circle , who had been in cryostasis since the end of World War II . Subsequently, Captain America became the leader of the Avengers and retrospectively received the status of a founding member instead of the Hulk. A few issues later, all the remaining founding members left the team, and Captain America put together a new Avenger team, whose members included Hawkeye, who, unlike in the film, was not a SHIELD agent here, but a pardoned criminal and former opponent Iron Man. Over the years the members changed frequently, and after more than a hundred issues the Black Widow, who was once a Soviet spy and as such also an opponent of Iron Man and as such had a brief relationship with Hawkeye , finally joined the Avengers, which she later even led in the meantime.

The team's relationship with the US government only developed over time. In a story from the late 1970s, the government finally granted the Avengers so many privileges that the National Security Council appointed a liaison officer who was henceforth authorized to instruct the team and even to determine the size of the team. The first liaison was Henry Peter Gyrich, who often played off his authority. Later liaison persons, on the other hand, were more cooperative. In the comic book adaptation of X-Men , Gyrich played a small role, but it turned out that the shapeshifter Mystique Gyrich had killed and taken his place. Since the rights to the X-Men films are owned by 20th Century Fox , a crossover with the "Marvel Cinematic Universe", in which The Avengers plays, is unlikely. With SHIELD and Nick Fury, on the other hand, the Avengers in the comics occasionally cooperated, but were never directly subordinate to the secret service.

The idea of making a SHIELD foundation out of the Avengers was first used for the second Avengers comic series, which appeared in 1996 as part of the crossover “Heroes Reborn” and in a different universe played. Later, the idea for the series The Ultimate , which played in the " Ultimate Universe ", was taken up again, but the team was initially called "The Ultimates" (German: "The Ultimate"), while the Avengers were later founded as a separate team. From the "Ultimate Universe" the appearance of Nick Fury was adopted, who is fair-skinned in the "classic" Marvel universe, while his "ultimate" counterpart is modeled after Samuel L. Jackson , who had given Marvel permission at the time. In addition, the "ultimate" versions of Hawkeye and the Black Widow were originally members of a covert operations division of the "Ultimate", but the Black Widow later emerged as a double agent who betrayed her team.

Maria Hill was only introduced in the comics of the "classic" Marvel universe in 2005 as a SHIELD agent, who took over the management of the secret service instead of Nick Fury, who was in hiding. One of their first actions was to try to prevent the newly disbanded Avengers from being founded again.

occupation

Several Oscar nominees are involved in the film: Robert Downey Jr. for Chaplin and Tropic Thunder , Samuel L. Jackson for Pulp Fiction , Jeremy Renner for Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker and The Town without Mercy , Mark Ruffalo for The Kids Are All Right , Gwyneth Paltrow for Shakespeare in Love , director Joss Whedon for Toy Story, and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey for apology .

This is the fifth time Samuel L. Jackson has played Nick Fury in a movie. The only other superhero actors who have made as many appearances for the same role are Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man).

Avengers co-creator Stan Lee made a cameo as an incredulous chess player in one of the television reports of the Avengers victory towards the end of the film . He can also be seen in a cut scene in which Steve Rogers (Captain America) is sitting in a café. After he has talked to the waitress, Lee turns to him and says: "Ask her for your number, idiot!"

The Avengers as part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe"

Marvel's The Avengers is the sixth film that is part of a larger, cohesive universe, the " Marvel Cinematic Universe ".

The first film, Iron Man (2008), introduced the character of Tony Stark, who became the superhero Iron Man as the film progressed. Pepper Potts, Phil Coulson, Nick Fury and the artificial intelligence Jarvis also had their first appearances in Iron Man as part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" and were embodied just like Tony Stark by the same actors and speakers as in Marvel's The Avengers . Fury was only seen in a scene after the credits of the film and made Tony Stark an offer to join the “Avengers Initiative” (translated as “Avengers Initiative” in the German dubbed version of the film).

The sequel, Iron Man 2 , was released in 2010 as the third film and introduced the character of Natasha Romanoff, who was not yet referred to as "Black Widow" here. Tony Stark developed a new Iron Man armor at the end of the film and replaced the palladium , which until then had formed the core of the “ arc reactor” in his chest, which kept Tony alive and energized his armor, with a new one Element that, unlike palladium, no longer poisoned its blood. Since Tony had previously behaved unpredictably in the certainty that he would not live long, Natasha Romanoff classified him at the end of the film for the "Avengers Initiative" as unsuitable, which is why Nick Fury now only offered him a position as a consultant. Pepper Potts, Phil Coulson and Jarvis also appeared again and, like Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff and Nick Fury, were again embodied by the same actors and speakers as in Marvel's The Avengers .

The second film released, The Incredible Hulk , introduced the character of Bruce Banner as well as his alter ego , the Hulk. Banner was on the run from the US military trying to find a cure for his gamma-ray blood that would get rid of the Hulk. However, when a soldier was transformed into an even more monstrous monster (Abomination) and, unlike the Hulk, deliberately attacked innocent people, Banner intentionally turned into the Hulk to stop the creature. At the end of the film, Banner found refuge in British Columbia , Canada , and tried not to suppress the Hulk any longer, but to consciously transform himself into it and possibly even control it. In the final scene of the film, Tony Stark (played again by Robert Downey Jr. ) went to General Ross ( William Hurt ), the Hulk's pursuer, in a bar and informed him of the planned formation of a team. Chronologically, The Incredible Hulk is classified after Iron Man 2 , although the latter film was released later. In contrast to Marvel's The Avengers , Bruce Banner was still played by Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk , but after the latter fell out with Marvel regarding the length and thematic focus of The Incredible Hulk , the role for The Avengers was re-cast with Mark Ruffalo .

The fourth film, Thor (2011), introduced the character of Thor, his brother Loki, and the scientist Erik Selvig. During the course of the film, Thor met SHIELD and agent Phil Coulson. Clint Barton was also briefly seen, but was not yet referred to as "Hawkeye". After Thor got his full strength back, he let Coulson know that they were on the same side. At the end of the film Thor thwarted Loki's plans and destroyed the rainbow bridge Bifröst , whereupon Loki fell into the abyss under the bridge. In a scene after the credits, Erik Selvig was greeted by Nick Fury at SHIELD headquarters, but it turned out that Loki had survived and had come to Earth, where he influenced Selvig without Fury being aware of it. All characters were embodied by the same actors as in Marvel's The Avengers .

The fifth film, Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), was set largely around the time of World War II and introduced the character of Steve Rogers, who later became the superhero Captain America. At the end of the film, Steve crashed a plane in the Arctic Circle and was cryostatic from the serum in his blood that had turned him from a small, frail person into a tall, muscular man . It was not until decades later that he was finally discovered and revived by the SHIELD secret service. Nick Fury then explained to Steve that 70 years had passed since World War II. After the end credits of the film, there was a brief preview of Marvel's The Avengers . Both Steve Rogers and Nick Fury were portrayed by the same cast as in The Avengers .

After Iron Man 3 , Thor - The Dark Kingdom was the eighth film . The sequel takes place after Marvel's The Avengers .

reception

Reviews

The Avengers received mostly positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes summarizes 321 reviews, of which 295, or 92 percent, were positive. The film received an average of 8 out of 10 points. The script never forgets the humanity of its heroes, so the summary. The film lives up to its hype and thus sets the bar for Marvel films. The user rating is 91 percent with 1,130,541 votes cast. Metacritic rates the film 69 percent based on 43 reviews. 1,049,271 users of the Internet Movie Database rate The Avengers with 8.1 out of 10 points.

“The really exciting question is therefore not which plot is used to bring the characters together, but whether the brand-fixated franchise company still allows itself something like creative freedom and enthusiasm in view of a three-digit million investment. Fortunately, the answer is yes. […] There is by no means a lack of show values, and especially in the spectacular finale Whedon transfers the aesthetics of the comic panels with verve into the cinematic space without the viewer losing orientation. But the most important special effects of the film are first and foremost the sparkling exchanges. "

“Director Joss Whedon counteracts chaos by staging it in a decidedly chaotic way: the film seems a little unbalanced. It is confused at first, then tough, later serious, afterwards funny, even self-deprecating and towards the end unpleasantly pathetic, which from a certain point of view can be seen as an increase in self-irony. "

“Entertaining action film that lets the well-known superhero characters interact in a funny and exciting way in a new context and balances the fantasy of the narrative with self-irony. Technically perfect and visually imaginative in the turbulent action scenes. "

“Duels between heroes, peppered with ironic dialogues, are true-to-original versions from the comics of the 1960s, which will delight older comic nerds in particular. For decades, superhero films failed due to the technical feasibility of such confrontations. Today, digital special effects make it possible to implement almost exactly the same as the original. The line between real and animated films is blurring. The media comics and film merge in Marvel's The Avengers formally and in terms of content to a coherent overall picture. "

Gross profit
