Black Widow is a science fiction - action - adventure film by director Cate Shortland from the year 2020. This is the 24th film inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Here is Scarlett Johansson as titular heroine Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow to be seen. The film is slated to hit US cinemas on November 6, 2020.

action

Natasha Romanova, who was handed over to the KGB shortly after her birth and trained as an agent, lives in the USA 15 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

production

Scarlett Johansson , here at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, plays Black Widow in the title role

At the beginning of 2018 it was announced that the development of a “Black Widow” solo film was taking shape and that Jac Schaeffer would write the script. David Hayter had already written a screenplay in 2004 and was supposed to direct it. In July 2018, the Australian Cate Shortland was hired as a director. About her engagement, Shortland said she was drawn to the main character because of the main character's secrets and vulnerability. Later Ned Benson was commissioned to revise the script written by Schaeffer. Florence Pugh said of the script that she surprised "how brave, raw and sad it is". In January 2020 it was announced that Eric Pearson will be the sole screenwriter of the film and that Schaeffer and Benson will only receive story credits .

The cast of the film at San Diego Comic-Con 2019

The eponymous main character Black Widow is actually called Natalia Alianovna Romanov and is supposed to be played by Scarlett Johansson . The character already had this in Iron Man 2 (2010), Marvel's The Avengers (2012), The Return of the First Avenger (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), The First Avenger: Civil War (2016), Avengers : Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) and should get a fee of 20 million US dollars for the film. The main opponent of the film is said to be Taskmaster , whose real name is Tony Masters , has a photographic memory with which he can learn the fighting style of his opponents in a very short time, and who wears a skeleton mask that is typical for him. André Holland , among others, should be in discussion for the role . Florence Pugh will play KGB agent Yelena Belova , also codenamed Black Widow in the comics . At the beginning of April 2019, it became known that David Harbor and Rachel Weisz were involved in the film, a short time later that OT Fagbenle was engaged . In June, Ray Winstone was finally hired. He will play the role of Dreykov , the head of the so-called "Red Room". The Dutch bodybuilder Olivier Richters also confirmed his involvement in the film. It is also reported that Robert Downey Jr. will appear one last time as Tony Stark aka Iron Man .

At the San Diego Comic-Con 2019, both the May 2020 release date and the role names were revealed and a first teaser was presented. Yelena Belova , embodied by Pugh, is said to play both a sister figure and a bitter rival of Natascha Romanoff , Weisz ' Melina Vostokoff is a special agent who has already gone through the Black Widow program five times , Harbors Alexei Shostakov is the Russian counterpart to Captain America and Fagbenles Mason is a technology specialist who is said to have romantic feelings for Romanoff . Johansson said about the film that it was significantly more dialog-heavy than her previous MCU appearances, showed the real fears and the "dirty truth" of the main character, also clarified about the espionage past of this and also treated the traumatic mentioned in previous films Incident in Budapest. She also revealed that the film won't be as light and humorous as other MCU entries, but real and rough. She herself has become more mature and a mother in the past ten years, which means that she can now, according to her own statement, give the main character more complexity. She later added that central themes in the film were self-doubt, insecurity, family, shame, disappointment and remorse. Harbor stated that the film was based on espionage and humanity, that it had the big Marvel moments, but felt primarily like a character piece from the main character. Weisz, however, revealed that in addition to Natascha Romanoff , Melina Vostokoff and Yelena Belova , other Black Widows should appear in the film. These are embodied by Simona Zivkovska , Yolanda Lynes , Jade Ma and Shaina West . The screenwriter Jac Schaeffer also promised that the fighting style should be strongly influenced by instinctive and brutal hand-to-hand combat. At the D23 Expo in August 2019, in addition to new images, it was also revealed that the protagonist in the film will temporarily wear a white suit.

Shooting began at the end of May 2019 in the Norwegian village of Sæbø in the municipality of Ørsta on the Hjørundfjord under the working title Blue Bayou . Rob Hardy was originally supposed to act as cameraman, but he left the project before production began. He was then replaced by Gabriel Beristain . At the beginning of June 2019, production was relocated to Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire . Recordings were made in Budapest at the end of the month . Filming then continued in London . Some scenes were also shot in Morocco and Georgia . The recordings were made in the US state on October 1st and 2nd in Rome and Macon , including at Terminal Station . From there, set photos also confirmed that William Hurt is part of the cast. Other Georgia locations were Tucker and Norcross , which were filmed from October 2-4. Shooting was completed a few days later.

The film is said to take place in the period between The First Avenger: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War for the most part. Kevin Feige also drew a comparison to the Better Call Saul series , which is a prequel to Breaking Bad , but almost on its own as it introduces many new things. This fact is due to the fact that Johansson neither tells an origin nor a spy story, but according to his own statement wanted to build on what she had created with the previous films.

The film music was initially to be composed by Alexandre Desplat . However, at the beginning of April 2020 he was replaced by Lorne Balfe .

A first trailer was released on December 3, 2019. Additional images were shown on January 13, 2020 as part of the College Football Playoff National Championship Games 2019. Black Widow was also represented with a 30-second trailer at Super Bowl LIV in early February 2020 . A final trailer was released on March 9, 2020. The film was originally scheduled to hit German cinemas on April 30, 2020 and US cinemas the following day, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic . November 6, 2020 has been announced as the new US release date, and in Germany the film is slated to open in cinemas on October 28.

Classification in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In Black Widow is the first film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe , which will comprise a total of five films.
