Based on the events of Marvel's The Avengers , agent Phil Coulson - who survived his alleged death - puts together a group of agents for the secret organization SHIELD , the superhuman Mike Peterson, who survived the explosion of a building, and the hacker organization "Rising Tide ”, which appears to have information about it. Skye, a member of Rising Tide, meets with Peterson and warns him about SHIELD, saying that they cover up supernatural machinations and that she can help him, which he refuses. She is later brought to their plane by Coulson and Agent Grant Ward and questioned there. At first she is not ready to cooperate, but eventually reveals what she knows. It is later revealed that Peterson came into contact with the so-called "Centipede Serum" (consisting of extraterrestrial metal, gamma rays, the Extremis virus and the super soldier serum), whereby he acquired such powers, but who is behind it is a secret the “Centipede” project. After visiting the site of the explosion, Coulson's team is able to recreate the scene and learn that the explosion was caused by another object detonated by the Extremis infection. While trying to get information from the team, Skye is kidnapped by Peterson (who is now on the run), whereupon he tries to get her to use her computer skills to give him a clean slate. Coulson's team succeeds in tracking down the two and incapacitating Peterson without seriously harming him, while they are also one of Dr. Stop Debbie's skilled assassin. With Peterson under SHIELD custody, Coulson offers Skye a place on his team.

Skye is now on Coulson's team as a consultant. Your next mission is in Peru, where a "0-8-4" was discovered, the SHIELD designation for "an object of unknown origin". When they arrive, they realize that the item is part of long-forgotten HYDRA technology that is powered by tesseract energy. Coulson meets Camilla Reyes, a former colleague of his, whose team he brings on board his plane. Reyes later betrays Coulson as she intends to use the HYDRA weapon to destroy the Peruvian rebels. The arguing team members band together, each using their own talent to gradually take out Reyes' people. Reyes is taken into custody, and Skye receives a message from another Rising Tide member to whom she confirms her continued loyalty. In the final scene, Nick Fury laments the damage on the plane and assures Coulson that Skye is a risk factor.

SHIELD is looking for one of its most valuable researchers, Dr. Franklin Hall , kidnapped by his former partner Ian Quinn, a mining philanthropist and CEO of Quinn Worldwide, using a gravity device to attack the SHIELD convoy that was carrying Hall. Quinn asks Hall to build him a huge gravitonium generator, with which he wants to control the gravity of the earth. After the team gets to Malta , Skye volunteers to infiltrate Quinn's mansion during his party so that Coulson and Ward can save Hall. By pretending to betray SHIELD to Quinn, who found out her real reason for appearing, in order to help Rising Tide, she manages to escape from the chasing guards. Coulson then discovers Hall who wants to bring about his own escape and wants to destroy the gigantic machine. Coulson tries to convince Hall that this is not the right thing to do because it would kill millions of people. Their violent argument results in Coulson's being forced not to save Hall when he falls into the generator, apparently causing it to evaporate. Coulson orders that the gravitonium be kept in high security. In the final scene, SHIELD does not notice that Hall could still be alive in the Gravitonium.

A number of thefts are taking place around the world that Coulson and his team are investigating. Coulson manages to uncover the identity of the thief: his former student Akela Amadour. Coulson thought she was dead and doesn't believe she actually betrayed SHIELD, although Agent Melinda May says Amadour is nothing more than a weapon. The team almost catches Amadour, but she escapes. However, May ends up in Amadour's hotel room to face her, and together with Coulson they manage to capture her. So they find out that Amadour is being monitored by an X-ray camera in her false eye and is forced to follow instructions, because if she refuses, a detonator in her eye will ignite. Coulson takes her on the bus and makes it look as if she has fled one more time, but they actually installed a camera in glasses that receive the signals from Amadour's client, so Ward can carry out the current mission undisturbed with the glasses . While Agent Leopold Fitz removes Amadour's eye with the detonator, Coulson gets to the man he actually thinks is the secret client. However, when this is also killed by a detonator in his eye, it turns out that someone much bigger is behind it. Amadour is now wearing an eye patch and Coulson promises her a fair trial. Before leaving, she reveals to May that Coulson seems to have changed in a certain way. Afterwards, Fitz and Ward play poker together, with Fitz constantly mocking Ward. Ward is unaware that Skye is using the glasses' camera to help Fitz by giving him Ward's cards. But when she explains to him that she could watch him with the help of the camera without clothes, he refuses to help and gives up. Skye uses the camera to check out Ward anyway.

Chan Ho Yin, a Hong Kong street artist, reveals his pyrokinetic skills to a young woman named Raina, who has him kidnapped shortly afterwards. The SHIELD agent Quan Chen and the rest of the SHIELD team are also informed, which immediately begins to determine the whereabouts of Chan. The trail leads to Rising Tide, which has apparently disclosed information leading to suspicion on Skye. Skye protests her innocence and suggests considering other hackers. The team then moves to Austin, Texas , where the hacker Miles Lydon, with whom Skye has a secret relationship, is located. After spending a night with him, the SHIELD agents arrive, suspecting, and taking Skye and Miles into custody on the bus. The team flies to Hong Kong to rescue the kidnapped Chan, whose kidnappers reveal themselves to be members of the Centipede project. These inject Chan with the Extremis Serum, which improves his fire powers many times over, whereupon he calls himself Scorch. Back on the bus, Miles explains to Coulson that Centipede was mistaken for a group of environmental activists. Raina orders the scientist Dr. Debbie took Chan's blood cells to make them available for further experiments. SHIELD infiltrates the Centipede building, with Chan freeing himself, killing Agent Quan, and attacking Coulson and May. Chan then meets Dr. Debbie, whom he burns in revenge, while Raina escapes. The team is forced to kill him by triggering the unstable element of Extremis. Miles is ultimately released from SHIELD custody, although as a suspended sentence he is equipped with a device that SHIELD can use to check his computer activities. Ward tells Coulson that Skye hacked the mainframe to find out who was behind the Centipede project. Finally, Skye is asked by Coulson what she is hiding and why she is on the team at all. She reveals that at both Rising Tide and now SHIELD she is trying to find out what happened to her parents who were in contact with SHIELD. Coulson promises to support her, but gives her the same bracelet as Miles to control her. Meanwhile, Raina visits Edison Po in prison and tells him how the experiment went. She also asks him if they should contact the "clairvoyant".

Agent Coulson can be verified by a physical test. The team is investigating a number of deaths that occurred due to electrostatic anomalies. Also, the fact that the corpses are floating only leads them to conclude that this must be some form of extraordinary weapon. In fact, the cause is a Chitauri helmet that was salvaged by a few firefighters in the battle in New York . They took it away and cleaned it, not knowing that they were infected with an alien virus, and are now running around as electrostatic bombs. Coulson discovers that Agent Jemma Simmons was also infected during the investigation, which he then locks up in quarantine in the laboratory. In order to develop an antidote together with her, Fitz also enters the room. Meanwhile, Coulson receives a message from Agent Blake who orders him to liquidate Simmons so as not to endanger the plane, which Coulson does not follow. After many unsuccessful attempts, Simmons gives up and knocks out Fitz so that he can jump out of the plane unhindered and thus sacrifice himself. When Fitz wakes up again, he discovers that one of the anti-serums is working, but he can no longer prevent Simmons from jumping. But Ward is quick to think, takes the serum and a parachute and jumps after it. He manages to save them and they end up in the middle of the sea. Coulson explains how difficult it was to get the two of them out of the Moroccan Sea without any problems. After his physical tests show nothing unusual, Coulson confides in Agent May that he is seeking an explanation for why he is feeling different. She explains that it would be impossible that his apparent death did not change him. She alludes to events in her own life. The helmet is taken to the SHIELD sandpit, a facility where Agent Blake is holding the helmet. He warns Coulson of the consequences of failing to command.

The team arrives at the “Hub”, a special SHIELD facility, to receive a new assignment from Agent Victoria Hand: a weapon called “Overkill” has been developed in South Ossetia, which is capable of eliminating any type of firearm with the aid of sonic vibrations. With this, the region wants to fight for independence. Ward and Fitz are sent to South Ossetia to destroy the "overkill". Skye and Simmons are not initiated because their rank is not high enough. So they try to find out for themselves where Ward and Fitz are. When they are working in a compartment of the hub that is only accessible to agents from level 8 and thus not accessible to them, they are discovered by Agent Sitwell, who is shocked by Simmons in their distress. Skye hacks into the mission's data and learns that Ward and Fitz have no rescue team ready to rescue them. Skye confronts Coulson, who, however, did not know anything about it himself and now confronts Victoria Hand, who reveals to him that he purposely did not find out about it. Eventually, Coulson, May, Skye, and Simmons set out to save Ward and Fitz themselves. These have now succeeded in removing the important core of overkill, without which the weapon is useless. She was taken to an orphanage a long time ago by a former SHIELD agent and as a result she suspects it was her mother. In the subsequent conversation between Coulson and May it is revealed that Skye has not learned the whole truth, but is never allowed to. Coulson tries to get files from his rest in Tahiti, but is strangely denied access.

After the battle between Thor and Malekith at Greenwich University, Phil Coulson's team searches the damaged property for alien artifacts. The group is sent to Norway because there the two paganists Jakob Nystrom and Petra Larsen found a piece of the three-part Berserker staff from Asgard in the Trillemarka nature reserve , which gives the wearer superhuman strength. The Norwegians use this to try violently to pull people to their side. Fitz and Simmons discover that the staff has the same signature as Thor's hammer. Asgard expert Elliot Randolph, who lives in Spain, helps locate the second part of the staff. When Ward touches him, the power of the staff unfolds in him. The piece came into the hands of the Norwegians shortly afterwards. Meanwhile, the team discovers that Randolph is actually an einensir who was in possession of the berserk staff a long time ago, but hid it in three parts of the earth due to its too great power. He reveals the whereabouts of the third piece, a monastery in Iceland. There you can find the part, but the Norwegian grouping with the two other parts also appears. Coulson's team defeated the pagans in the ensuing fight after May had put the three parts together to form a whole berserk staff. The staff is taken into custody and Randolph decides to move to Portland on Coulson's advice. Skye offers Ward to share his experiences with her, but Ward prefers to spend the evening with May. During the night, Coulson dreams of his apparently pleasant relaxation in Tahiti , which turns out to be a nightmare.

Coulson's team takes security officer Hannah Hutchins into custody, who is accused of causing an explosion during a machine inspection and thus the death of four employees. Coulson believes that Hutchins developed telekinetic skills that she cannot control. Meanwhile, Fitz and Simmons figure out how to play a prank on Skye, whereupon they tell her a false story about Agent May from the past. Eventually the plane crashes for reasons unknown to the team. They find out that Tobias Ford, a technician present at the explosion, who is constantly teleporting back and forth between the earth and another world, as he thinks hell , as God's punishment, is on board. Since he is drawn to Hutchins, he has z. B. caused the accident to protect her from that very thing so that she becomes aware of him. When May leads Hutchins away from the crash site, they are followed by Ford until a duel between the two ensues. Eventually May tries to convince Ford with words to turn away from Hutchins, whereupon he apparently teleports to another location forever. Coulson explains the true story of May's past to Skye, as far as he knows, noting that the incident changed May and that he is now trying to restore her to the warm-hearted person she used to be. When the team is sitting at the table and playing a game, Fitz comes with cream on his face and wants to know who played a prank on him. When nobody says it, it turns out that Coulson's methods are having an effect on May, who is sitting in the cockpit.

Edison Po is released from prison by some Centipede soldiers who have the serum in them. To this end, Mike Peterson, who has trained his powers since his capture under SHIELD custody, is appointed to the team by Coulson. They manage to locate one of the Centipede people, but when they arrive at the appropriate place, an old warehouse, it turns out to be an ambush that Peterson's team can withstand. When they kill one of the soldiers and send the rest of them to flight, a tiny detonator in his eye kills him. Fitz and Simmons discover that this is the same device that Akela Amador's eye was implanted in. After Raina tries again and again to find out information about the “clairvoyant” from Edison Po, Po warns her that her curiosity could cost her her life. Meanwhile, Coulson reveals to Syke that Agent May also knows about the search for her parents. Meanwhile, Peterson calls his son Ace, whom he has not spoken to in a long time due to his stay at SHIELD. But during the phone call, Raina explains to him that Centipede has his son and will only give him up in exchange for Peterson himself. Thus, the SHIELD team and the Centipede people meet at the specified location. But at the moment of the exchange, Peterson reveals to Coulson that Centipede really wanted him, whereupon the soldiers release Ace and take Coulson with them. Agent Victoria Hand and some SHIELD agents on Coulson's plane look for him. Meanwhile, Coulson is tortured by Edison Po, who wants to find out the secret of his recovery. Meanwhile, Agent Hand says that Skye is of no help to the team and, with May's consent, causes them to leave the plane. Skye then plans to find out Coulson's location on her own. Raina finally appears at this, who takes a call from the clairvoyant personally. When she passes the cell phone on to Po, he is killed by a special function. This reveals that Raina was in direct contact with the clairvoyant the entire time without Po knowing about it. Raina uses a special device that scans Coulson's subconscious to make him remember the time after his alleged death. Instead of a pleasant rest in Tahiti, the picture in his mind changes to a hospital ward where he is operated on by two doctors. Meanwhile, Skye is able to determine Coulson's location, which she immediately sends to the team on the plane, which makes its way to him. When they arrive, they can save Coulson and capture Raina. Coulson then looks for Dr. Arguing, a doctor out of his thoughts, who explains to him that Coulson was actually dead for days and no longer had the will to live, but which, on Director Fury's orders, was planted back in his brain through false memories. Elsewhere, Mike Peterson, badly wounded and burned by the explosions, wakes up in a small cell when he realizes that his eye has been implanted with the self-destruct camera that is now giving him orders.

Agent Ward, Agent Fitz and Agent Simmons join the SHIELD Academy, where young talents e.g. B. in science, such as Fitz and Simmons, or for field use and combat, such as Ward. The reason for the arrival of the three agents is an apparent assassination attempt that was carried out when the young student Seth bathed in the research department's pool and it then froze up. Incidentally, Fitz and Simmons give a speech in front of the cadets, in which another student, Donnie Gill, is frozen by the ice, who, like Seth, survives. As with the first time, they find a special device that causes the frost. The students are questioned while Fitz tries to gain Donnie's trust. Fitz realizes that he has developed a lot of intelligent devices, of which Donnie gets help from Fitz to complete it. Meanwhile, Coulson and May are on their way to Mexico City to find out something about Skye's past. To do this, they go to Richard Lumley, who tells them that 24 years ago, back then as a SHIELD agent, he had a mission during which he and a few other agents recovered a 0-8-4 from a Chinese village. This was also the target of unknown enemies back then, killing many SHIELD agents in combat. The 0-8-4 was placed at SHIELD: it was Skye as an infant, so sought after for her supposed superhuman abilities. In the meantime, Ward, Fitz and Simmons have found out that the device that Donnie got help with from Fitz is also a freezing machine, only in an enlarged form and radius. They also realize that this is an assignment from Ian Quinn, for which he pays Donnie and Seth a lot of money. Since Quinn wants to see a test of the device, the two cadets position it on the roof, creating a huge ice storm and Seth is struck by lightning, but Donnie survives. He is shocked but realizes that he has developed cryokinetic skills. Coulson tells Skye the truth about her, and she falls into grief. He also contacts Ian Quinn, who reveals connections to the clairvoyant.

While pursuing Ian Quinn, Coulson's team finds out that he is awaiting a shipment from Cybertek, a private research company, which will be sent to him by train. Coulson and the rest get on the train, which the Cybertek people learn. Coulson, May and Ward are thrown from the train in the ensuing fight, while Skye and Fitz keep an eye on the package. When it is transported from the train into a car, they follow it to Quinn's villa, which Skye then goes to. Coulson, Ward and May have Simmons, who was also involved in a fight, from the train and are now on their way to Quinn's mansion. Meanwhile, Skye arrives at the package, which is in the same room as Mike Peterson, who is rehabilitating through hyperbaric oxygenation in an oxygen dome. Skye is discovered by Quinn, who reveals the contents of the delivery: it is a high-tech prosthesis developed by Cybertek for Peterson, who lost his leg in the explosion. Quinn takes him out of the dome and attaches the prosthesis to his leg. Skye asks Peterson why he appears to be working for the Clairvoyant, but he can't tell her because of the camera in his eye. Quinn then shoots Skye twice before leaving her to die. The SHIELD team infiltrated the building and captured Quinn. They discover Skye, which Simmons puts in the oxygen chamber, where she is temporarily kept alive. Peterson asks the clairvoyant to see his son, which he forbids him for the time being.

The dying Skye is taken to a SHIELD hospital facility, where doctors can only stabilize her temporarily. Agent Coulson suggests that his own healing methods should work the same way on Skye. The team then goes to Coulson's treatment center. Agent Antoine Triplett and his superior Agent John Garrett get on the plane because the team has disregarded the order to hand over the captured Ian Quinn SHIELD. After a little dispute, they agree that Garrett should question him on board. Quinn finally reveals the clairvoyant's plan: he ordered Quinn to shoot Skye so that Coulson would try to heal her the same way he was healed. Thus the clairvoyant would learn the truth about Coulson's healing. Coulson gives Fitz and Simmons his treatment file, which they can use to find the location of the operation known as the "guest house". Once there, they meet two guards who turn them off, but the team discovers that the underground facility has been equipped with explosive charges, the countdown of which runs in a few minutes. Fitz finds the special drug with which Coulson was successfully treated at the time. He has meanwhile come across a door marked “TAHITI”, which leads into a room with lots of wired devices. There Coulson discovers the source of the mysterious vaccine, the severed torso of a blue-skinned, disfigured creature. He and Garrett can flee at the last minute before the explosions destroy the facility. Finally, Simmons Skye injects the agent, which works successfully. In Death Valley , meanwhile, the Asin Lorelei appears from the desert, who unceremoniously seduces a newlywed man in a hypnotic way.

With her magical seduction skills, Lorelei is gathering more and more men in Death Valley. Coulson's team then discovers a source of energy that comes from the Bifröst , with which the Asian warrior Lady Sif traveled to earth to pursue Lorelei. The SHIELD team meets Sif, who explains to them that Lorelei has the ability to manipulate the will of men, which she used hundreds of years ago to attack empires and planets. She was eventually caught using a special collar that kept her from talking, preventing her from seducing men. As a result of the battle of the dark elves , she was able to free herself and now wants to create a new army. When they locate Lorelei and it comes to a fight, Agent Ward's feelings are manipulated, whereupon he escapes with Lorelei to Las Vegas . Coulson and the rest pursue them in vain and return to their plane. There they meet Ward and Lorelei, who reveals to May that Ward has told her that he is attracted to someone other than May from the team. Finally, there is a fight between Ward and May, and between Lady Sif and Lorelei. Sif gains the upper hand and manages to put the collar on Lorelei. This ends their control over Ward, who then asks May for forgiveness. Sif takes the captured Lorelei back to Asgard, while May declares the personal relationship with Ward over. Meanwhile, Coulson arrives at the recovered Skye to reveal the truth about the alien serum that saved her. The two of them then decide on their own to find questions about the answers the secret SHIELD drug asks them. During the conversation they are overheard by Agent May, who is in the cockpit, who passes the information on to an unknown recipient.

Agent Coulson's SHIELD team receives help from agents Garrett, Triplett, Hand, Sitwell and Blake in their search for the clairvoyant. After you have compiled a list of potential psychic abilities, you form teams of two to visit each of the people on the list. Agent May and Agent Blake are in a house looking for Thomas Nash, who was once wanted by SHIELD, but was given up after his car accident when they meet Mike Peterson, who the team calls "Deathlok" because of his code name who seriously wounded Blake in a fight and eventually escapes. Blake managed to attach a tracking device to Deathlok's armor. However, when they pursue its new location, they can only drive it away again. In doing so, however, they discover a room in which they seem to meet the clairvoyant: It is actually Thomas Nash, who is immobilized in a chair and can only communicate through a voice computer. When the latter reveals to the team that he saw that Skye will die from Centipede, Ward shoots him out of anger, contrary to orders to arrest him. Meanwhile, on board the plane in May's cockpit, Fitz comes across a secret telephone connection with several encrypted lines and a fingerprint scanner. Coulson notes that the clairvoyant is probably still alive and Nash was just a puppet who didn't control the speech system. Coulson and Skye conclude that the clairvoyant cannot predict the future, but is actually a senior SHIELD agent who ordered Ward to kill Nash. Meanwhile, Ward sits in the prison cell on the plane and assures Coulson that he shot Nash of his own free will. In the present, Director Phil Coulson has recruited new agents into his team with the mercenaries Lance Hunter and Isabelle Hartley, whose first assignment is to buy information about the Obelisk from a former SHIELD agent. During the exchange, however, the agent is killed by Carl Creel, who has the ability to absorb the substance he is touching, whereupon Creel flees with the information. Coulson instructs Skye to interview the prisoner Ward, who reveals HYDRA communication channels that SHIELD has not yet tracked. With these, the team finds out that Creel's next assignment is to find out the whereabouts of the obelisk through General Glenn Talbot. The SHIELD team can save Talbot from Creel and kidnap the brigadier general in the same train. Talbot uses a trick to find out that all SHIELD properties confiscated by the US military, including the obelisk, are being kept in a warehouse. With Talbot's fingerprints they manage to get to the military compound, but when Agent Hartley discovers the obelisk, Creel attacks her. Hartley touches the obelisk, but the obelisk begins to gradually kill her. On the way to a hospital, Creel rolls over the car, killing Agent Hartley and Agent Idaho. Creel takes the obelisk and goes to his client. Skye and May recover a motorcycle and a Quinjet from the warehouse, which has a stealth mode that Fitz tries to develop, but unsuccessfully because he has suffered from amnesia and hallucinations since his injury, especially since Simmons has left the team. Finally, Creel's client reveals himself to be the not noticeably aged Dr. Reinhardt, who has meanwhile adopted the name "Daniel Whitehall".

Director Coulson realizes that Hunter is now working for Talbot, but the agent points out to Coulson that he honestly wants to avenge the deaths of his colleagues. When the team encounters Creel, Hunter temporarily incapacitates agents in position Skye, May, and Triplett in order to kill Creel alone, in contravention of Coulson's orders to arrest him. At the last moment, Coulson can save Hunter from this with a modified version of Overkill that petrifies Creel. After Agent Hunter's deal with Talbot is broken, Coulson gives him a second chance on his team. At SHIELD base, Coulson has another "seizure" by carving symbols into the wall under the supervision of Agent May. The obelisk has meanwhile fallen into the hands of Raina, who takes him to the "doctor", who urges her to touch the obelisk. The touch causes symbols similar to Coulson's drawings to light up on the obelisk, and Raina takes no damage. "The doctor" finally orders Raina to bring his daughter Skye to him. HYDRA has found out that Simmons and Donnie, who fatally refuses any advances by HYDRA, know each other. The SHIELD team can locate him in Morocco , where Donnie is on a HYDRA ship. Meanwhile, Fitz, who does not take part in the mission, discovers the secret prison room with Ward, which Coulson has kept from him. In order to get revenge on Ward for his brain damage by making him suffer as much as he had to suffer, Fitz reduces the oxygen supply in the prison cell, whereupon Ward reveals, in a lack of oxygen, that HYDRA Donnie used a certain technique of brainwashing on hers a long time ago Page has pulled, and now they want to reactivate this brainwashing. After a church is destroyed, the only remaining intact remains of a 500-year-old painting, a benefit party is held to raise money. After Coulson lets the time pass, Simmons is hunted at HYDRA by Sunil Bakshi and HYDRA agent Bobbi Morse . Finally, Morse reveals herself to be a smuggled SHIELD agent, whereupon both of them are rescued by Agent Triplett, who is sitting in a Quinjet. Meanwhile, Raina explains her situation to Coulson and asks him for help. However, Raina initially uses this to find the whereabouts of Skye's father. Once there, however, they only find corpses murdered bloodthirstily, which leaves Skye's father, who is watching them on cameras, into mourning, as he suspects that Skye now sees him as a brutal murderer. Coulson decides not to withhold any more secrets from Skye in search of her father and shows her the symbols carved into the wall. Skye learns from Ward that after injecting the serum, Garrett also began to carve such marks all over the place in his madness. Coulson asks Skye why she doesn't feel the urge, too, and decides that the drug in Skye may have had a different effect because she may have had alien DNA in her before. Skye then explains that she thinks the symbols are a card. Eventually, Doctor Daniel Whitehall pays a visit to HYDRA and offers him the obelisk to collaborate with to kill Coulson.

A meeting of the United Nations falls victim to an attack by a HYDRA unit led by Mark Scarlotti. SHIELD is falsely blamed for the attack, whereupon Senator Christian Ward, who reveals himself to be Grant Ward's older brother, announces that SHIELD will from now on be hunted around the world. Only the Belgian politician Julien Beckers still publicly supports SHIELD, which is now flying to Brussels to prevent Scarlotti from attacking Beckers again. Grant reveals to Skye his fear of his brother Christian, whereas the latter does not want the public to know about Grant. Director Coulson visits the Senator personally and explains to him that HYDRA and not SHIELD is behind the attack on the UN. Coulson also offers to extradite Grant in exchange for public speaking to absolve SHIELD of guilt. Agent May flies to Brussels with Agent Hunter and his ex-wife Bobbi Morse, between whom there are frequent disputes, but where they discover that it is a trap by the HYDRA supporter Beckers. At the SHIELD base, Agent Simmons and Agent Fitz reunite, but when Mack tells Simmons his suspicions that their presence is making Fitz's behavior worse. After the SHIELD agents defeat Scarlotti's men in battle, who are then arrested, the appeared General Talbot May expresses his condolences for the lost agents. In agony, he then sees some agents in his memories, including the fatality, all of whom were injected with the serum. While Coulson wants to end the project in view of the devastating psychological consequences of the test subjects, he is advised to rewrite their memories instead so that they can lead a normal life. Finally, Coulson recognizes the perfect symbolic pattern in Thompson's model building and also directs Derik's gaze there, which soothes both their urges. Ultimately, in the SHIELD base, it turns out that the entire drawing is a sketch of a city that Coulson is now trying to find. Meanwhile, the agents Triplett, Morse, Hunter and May were busy capturing Ward, but they did not succeed. Instead, this SHIELD left the captured Sunil Bakshi as a “gift”, whom Coulson now intends to exploit.

Due to the contamination of the marine ecosystem with the terrigen, it has spread among humans and brings new inhumans to light every day. SHIELD specializes in locating them and taking them into custody for safety. When they meet the Inhuman Joey Gutierrez, who has developed the power to melt metal, a paramilitary unit gets in their way. The SHIELD team around Daisy Johnson (Skye) still manages to save Joey from the soldiers, and Phil Coulson to take pictures of their unknown leader. In the SHIELD base, Joey is explained the circumstances of his newly acquired ability, which is so psychological that Coulson sends Daisy to consult the expert Lincoln Campbell. Since Coulson blames the secret group for the disappearance of several Inhumans, he leads a meeting with the anonymous manager in the subway with the help of Bobbi Morse, who works in the laboratory during her rehabilitation. There, Coulson, accompanied by Agent Lance Hunter, learns her name, Rosalind Price, and that her organization is not responsible for the missing Inhumans, but has even found their bodies. When Fitz hits the monolith in anger and at the last moment is saved by his team from being absorbed by the stone, he picks up ancient, alien sand, which leads him to conclude that the monolith is a time portal. Guided by the beacon, Simmons finds his way to Fitz and the two get back at the last moment before the monolith is blown to pieces. Grant Ward has made it his business to rebuild HYDRA according to his ideas and for this purpose kidnaps Werner von Strucker, son of the slain HYDRA leader Wolfgang, in order to put him to the test, exposed to his henchman Kebo. As von Strucker frees himself from Kebo's deficiency and knocks him down, Ward proves himself suitable for HYDRA. Elsewhere, Melinda May, who has taken a break from SHIELD to protect her father, is visited by Hunter, who suspects that May sees her father threatened by Ward. When Simmons flees and gets caught in a sandstorm, Will rescues her and then explains to her that the storm is the arrival of a deadly monster. Will recognizes Simmons' peaceful intentions and tells her that he has been stuck here since a 2001 NASA mission. He was sent to the planet with a team of scientists to investigate until the mysterious creature appeared and drove all but Will to suicide. In the following months, Simmons sets out to decipher the opening rhythm of the portal with the help of Will's equipment and visits the dangerous “no-go area”. Simmons discovers a device for measuring the planet between human remains, but has to flee to the shelter when a sandstorm approaches and the monster approaches. With the help of what she found, Simmons can finally calculate the time and place of the next opening of the portal, and together with Will she sets out to get there. While examining the bodies of the Transia board members, Fitz and Simmons discover that they were killed by the infestation of parasitic microorganisms controlled by the Inhuman with Ward's appearance. After SHIELD observed the dismantling of several facilities at an agricultural science subsidiary of Transia, they infiltrated the building and were able to capture Giyera. Malick, who fears his assassination by the Inhuman because of a vision caused by Charles, is received at his property by his daughter Stephanie and the Inhuman, who has invited the high ranks of the "believing" HYDRA faction to meet them with his true, to reveal non-human appearance. In the meantime, Lincoln and Daisy visit an Inhuman named James, who once gained knowledge of the monster inhuman through unauthorized access to the archive in Jiaying's "Beyond", whereupon he was denied terrigenesis and banned. From him they learn that the ancient Inhuman was chosen by the Kree to lead their Inhuman army before he was driven out because of his enormous power. In front of Stephanie, the Inhuman finally confronts Malick with his act in 1970, when he and his brother Nathaniel inherited their late father's place at HYDRA and the imprisoned Daniel Whitehall, who did not share her belief in the Inhuman, revealed a ruse to them her father always used it when drawing lots for the traveler in order to be spared from going through the portal. Gideon broke the deal with Nathaniel not to use the same trick that selected his brother; as punishment, the Inhuman now kills Malick's daughter. On board the SHIELD aircraft, Giyera can free himself from his cell and, after the successful takeover, steer the aircraft to a HYDRA base, which prompts the alarmed Lincoln and Daisy to call the Secret Warriors.

Together with Elena and Joey, Daisy and Lincoln fly in the Quinjet to the HYDRA base and infiltrate it, whereby Lincoln fights his way to Malick and can take him prisoner and Daisy opens the hangar doors from the control room. Elena finds the team barricaded in a room of the plane and leads them to the Quinjet, where Joey is surprised by Lucio and kills him unintentionally. After returning to SHIELD headquarters, Malick suspects that the team's astonishingly easy escape was a move by the inhuman, Hive, in which he used his ability to plant his body's own parasites in the brain of another inhuman and then to control it. After Fitz and Simmons are able to confirm this during the autopsy on Lucio's body, there is a power failure and Malick is killed by a grenade in his cell. When Coulson tries to explain the situation to the four inhumans, they feel threatened by the presence of armed agents and take refuge in a common room. From there, Daisy leads her team into a containment chamber, where she - as previously agreed with him - awaits Coulson and each of the four protests his innocence in a heated discussion. The discovery of a Kree artifact from James in Lincoln's locker is ultimately the decisive clue for Coulson that Lincoln was infected, even if Lincoln denied the theft. While Elena and Joey are found healthy during their examination, but leave SHIELD due to the breach of trust, Daisy visits Lincoln in his cell that night and expresses her intention to disappear with him. As Lincoln finds out in shock during the conversation, Daisy is the one who is under Hive's influence and was therefore also responsible for Malick's death. Since he refuses to join her, Daisy walks away with the artifact and the Terrigen crystals in stock and uses her powers to shake the entire SHIELD building.

Coulson, weakened by a broken leg from falling debris, lets May fly through the half-open hangar doors of the heavily damaged SHIELD headquarters in a risky maneuver to find the inhuman Alisha Whitley and save him from Hive. With the ability to produce doppelgangers of itself, however, this Lincoln attacks when they meet, which turns out that it is already infected and is actually in the presence of Hive. In the presence of Daisy, the latter uses a Terrigen crystal to evoke James' explosive inhuman powers, before he takes him under control with his parasites and forces him to hand over the remaining Kree artifact. Meanwhile, while visiting a transhumanist club in Bucharest, Fitz and Simmons hope to meet former Transia geneticist Holden Radcliffe, where they see the only way for Daisy's healing. With a pair of Deathlok eyes, they manage to arouse his interest, which shortly afterwards turns into suspicion, as he recognizes the eyes as the work of Cybertek and the purpose of violence behind them is opposed to him. Dragged away from the security service, Simmons suddenly faces Hive and Fitz the aggressive Daisy, who forcibly makes it clear to him that she does not want to be saved. After Simmons keeps Hive off with a pistol shot and the Inhuman group disappears with Radcliffe, Fitz and Simmons use the moment alone to sleep together and thus end their recently more intimate relationship. Back from a trip to James' trailer where Coulson and May were nearly bombed, Coulson follows an operation led by General Talbot that will wipe out all of the HYDRA bases Malick has revealed. Hive finally reveals to his team his plan to use the captured Radcliffe to turn all normal people into inhumans.

In a ghost town that he has taken into his possession and now uses as a base of operations, Hive tells Daisy how so-called "Kree reapers" landed on earth a few thousand years ago and carried out their first inhuman experiment on it. While SHIELD can locate Daisy in the ghost town via a surveillance camera using facial recognition and Coulson then starts a mission to kill Hives, Fitz and Simmons have succeeded in producing an antidote for Hive's parasites, but they do not recommend using it on Daisy due to harmful side effects. Although Coulson forbids him, Lincoln tests the drug on himself, causing him to paralytic shock and requiring medical treatment. In Hive's presence, Radcliffe makes the first attempt on three HYDRA believers to use terrigen manipulation to turn people into inhumans, which ends in their death. With Radcliffe's realization that Kree blood is necessary for a successful transformation, Hive activates the artifact James received, summoning the Kree Reapers, who, upon arriving in town, begin killing anyone who comes in their way , including Alisha. Tasked by Hive to bring a Reaper alive, Daisy breaks his spine in a fight, which the SHIELD team observes from a distance. When Mack then tries in vain to bring Daisy to her senses, and then lets the unconscious Kree crumble to dust with a cluster bomb, he makes her so angry that she beats him up badly and almost kills him. With a pistol shot in the direction of Daisy, May is able to prevent the latter, whereupon the injured Mack is transported away with the containment chamber. In order to prove her loyalty to Hive, disappointed by her failure, who has since killed the other Reaper, Daisy wants to provide her own blood, which has also contained Kree blood since she was resuscitated.

In the course of the recently passed Sokovia Agreement , which provides for the government to register all people with special abilities, Coulson declares himself ready to show General Talbot the Inhumans present during a tour of the secret SHIELD base, namely those just now Elena returned, the quarantined Lincoln, and Lash locked in the containment chamber. There, however, Lash is pierced by James with his chain of fire and dies, whereupon the exhausted Daisy flies back to the SHIELD headquarters, where she first has to recover. In a meeting with Talbot, the team finally suggests that Hive intends to use the warhead stolen from the ATCU for a widespread distribution of the inhuman pathogen.

When SHIELD learns from Daisy that Hive wants to fire his Terrigen rocket from a US military base in the Pacific, which it has already captured, it gets the shutdown codes with the help of General Talbot and is able to prevent the rocket from starting. After infiltration of the base, the SHIELD team can lure Hive into a construction made up of parts of the memory machine, which overlays his mind with memories of past hosts, so that he permanently loses focus and orders Giyera and James to flee with the warhead. The team can lock the confused Hive in a special chamber and flood it with gas, which solidifies into a gel that makes Hive unable to move. Meanwhile, in SHIELD's quarantine room, Coulson and Mack try to cheer up Daisy, who is plagued by feelings of guilt and self-loathing, whereby Coulson sees Daisy's emotional state as a withdrawal symptom of her brainwashing. After Coulson had the base cordoned off for security because of the still broken hangar doors, a box that was delivered for repair explodes while examining Hive's chamber a few meters away from Fitz, from which Terrigen fog escapes, which mutates a SHIELD employee into a "primitive" leaves. While this other agent attacks and moves into the fog, Fitz runs to one of the blocked exits, whose emergency lock Simmons has to temporarily paralyze so that Fitz can escape through the open door. From Coulson's office, the team then observes how Hive is freed from the gel matrix by five transformed "primitive" SHIELD agents and then boarded the SHIELD plane, which he now presumably wants to use to distribute the pathogen. Due to his disturbed memory, however, he can neither remember the controls nor Daisy, who has freed herself from her cell to get to him and now on his knees begs him to take her back under control.

Unable to comply with her request, as Lash's powers have made her immune to his parasites, Hive must defend himself against the attacks of the enraged Daisy, who he knocked out and locked in the containment cell on the plane. Thanks to his recurring memory, Hive succeeds in starting the same, whereupon he goes into the stratosphere with Giyera, James and the Terrigen rocket on board. Meanwhile, the SHIELD team flees from dozens of “primitive” SHIELD agents in Coulson's office, where he uses his prosthetic hand to call a Quinjet to the window, into which he lets the team into. May and Fitz, who had sneaked aboard the plane as stowaways, meanwhile free Daisy, with Giyera standing in their way, whom Fitz forced to shoot. After the SHIELD team docks with the Quinjet on the plane, Hive enters the plane in the hope of being able to take over Coulson's body, but falls for a hologram of Coulson, who penetrates the plane from outside with Mack, Lincoln and Simmons and is seen bumps into the rest of the team. On Coulson's orders, Daisy transports the warhead into the Quinjet, with the intention of steering it into space, where a detonation would have no consequences. Although Daisy agrees to do so in atonement, the moment Hive meets her in the Quinjet, she is pushed out by Lincoln and cannot prevent him from taking off with the Quinjet. At SHIELD, Coulson has since been demoted to agent position, a very scrupulous new director has been appointed, and Simmons has been named chief researcher as his closest confidante. Because of reports about Daisy's activities as "Quake", Coulson goes with Mack unofficially to Los Angeles and finds several bodies in the hold of a trailer truck stolen by the Aryan Brotherhood . Their suits lead Coulson and Mack to an empty warehouse, which they equip with cameras, through which they later witness the delivery of a box to a Chinese gang. When their leader opens it, a gaseous substance escapes that causes severe psychosis in those present. On Simmons' orders, May comes to the aid of the two with her task force, but May also comes into contact with the substance without her knowledge. After the gangsters pass out, they are placed at SHIELD. In search of the killer, who is now called " Ghost Rider " on the streets , Daisy receives a hint that his Dodge Charger can be found in a nearby junkyard. There she meets Robbie, who attacks her after a few questions about his car and reveals himself to her as the "Ghost Rider". Robbie explains that he only murders in revenge before his head turns into a flaming skull and he disappears. In his home, Radcliffe Fitz, who also works for SHIELD, introduces his android "AIDA", which Fitz does not approve of because of the secrecy from the director. Director Mace forbids Coulson to deal with May who has been taken into custody because of his lack of objectivity. An anonymous voice over television declared a power outage in Miami as an EMP attack by Inhumans demanding that the registration of the same be terminated. When the next EMP attack takes place in Los Angeles, riots break out and Daisy and Robbie have to protect Robbie's brother Gabe from a street gang. After the Chinese gang leader suddenly dies of a seizure at SHIELD, Simmons fears the same fate for May and brings her to Radcliffe, who tests his experimental framework equipment on her , which gives a detailed insight into May's brain activities and shows that she suffers from nightmarish anxiety states . Sent from Mace to Miami, Coulson, Fitz and Mack end a watchdog hostage-taking at a hotel party that includes Yo-Yo, and discover that the EMPs were in fact triggered by the watchdogs and were intended to slander the inhumans. Lacking a solution, Simmons and Radcliffe decide to put May into cardiac arrest to temporarily immobilize her brain, and then resuscitate her, using a defibrillator. In Miami, the SHIELD team is tracking down the EMP hiding place for the watchdogs and is able to turn them off; Back at headquarters, Coulson and Mace state that the watchdogs' expensive equipment suggests financial support. In Robbie's absence, Gabe sends Daisy away because he recognizes her as Quake on the news and sees her as a bad influence on his brother. In order to counteract the anti-inhuman mood that is emerging around the world, Mace appears earlier than planned with the new SHIELD and names the watchdogs as the cause of the EMPs. Elsewhere it is shown that the senator and outspoken opponent of Inhuman, Ellen Nadeer, is connected to the mastermind behind the EMP attacks and that her hostility is based on her brother being petrified by the Terrigen fog.

After an unproductive questioning of Robbie's jailed uncle Elias Morrow, a former researcher at Momentum Labs, Coulson and Mack see Robbie in his car and start the chase that ends for Robbie at the invisible SHIELD plane. Meanwhile, an apartment tour planned over the Internet unexpectedly leads Simmons to Daisy, who needs medical attention and forces Simmons to smuggle a data carrier into SHIELD's inhuman registration system. Through this, they find out that one of the Inhumans targeted by the Watchdogs is James, who has been working in a fireworks store since Hive was withdrawn. On Coulson's instructions, Robbie pays his uncle a visit and learns from him that the Momentum Labs team led by Joseph Bauer wanted to use a book to produce a quantum particle generator, which Elias warned the team about. After Joseph pushed the development forward and there was an accident in which all colleagues apparently died, Elias beat Joseph out of anger so much that he ended up in a coma. Robbie then unintentionally becomes part of another SHIELD mission when Coulson and Mack receive a signal from James' inhuman bracelet, which Daisy has since removed to warn him about the watchdogs. James makes a meeting point with Daisy and Simmons, where they are received by watchdogs and it turns out that James collaborates with them out of weariness with his inhuman existence. However, Robbie comes to the rescue, who defeats James as the Ghost Rider in a duel, while Coulson and Mack take care of the watchdogs. On board the plane, Coulson reveals to Daisy and Robbie that Joseph Bauer has awakened from his coma and that the book mentioned by Elias is called "Darkhold". May has recovered in the presence of AIDA and is picked up by Coulson and Simmons, the latter being the only one AIDA recognizes as an android.

While visiting Joseph Bauer in the hospital, Coulson and Mack watch as he has an anxiety attack and dies after being awakened by his wife Lucy, one of the ghosts of Momentum Labs. Since Lucy has now been able to take possession of the Darkhold, Coulson wants to get Eli Morrow out of prison to use his knowledge about the Darkhold. In the prison director's office, however, he and May find that all of Lucy's employees have been touched and are now mad with fear. Mack, Daisy and Robbie call for help over the radio, where Daisy joins Coulson and May and they have to fight off the prisoners Lucy has released in the meantime, while Robbie burns two of the ghosts and penetrates to Eli's cell. In order to take revenge on the member of a gang that was responsible for the paraplegia of his brother, Robbie sends Eli outside and then burns the prisoner as a ghost rider. After Coulson, May and Daisy meet Mack and Robbie again in front of the prison, but Eli has disappeared, they later see in a surveillance tape that Lucy escaped in an ambulance with Eli as a hostage. Amid a polygraph test in which she is about to betray herself with AIDA, Director Mace asks Simmons to provide him with information on headphones for a TV debate that Mace will use in defense of the Inhumans and SHIELD from Senator's allegations Nadeer needed. He is surprised by the news about the current SHIELD mission in prison, but does not show his ignorance about it and counters Nadeer's doubts about his suitability for the position of SHIELD director with his outing as Inhuman. At Nadeer's request, Mace then meets with her in person, where she threatens to release the surveillance footage from the prison that shows both Daisy and the Ghost Rider with SHIELD.

Flashbacks show how Joseph Bauer, after receiving the Darkhold, developed a machine that was able to create matter and ultimately wanted to transfer this ability to itself. While Lucy intends to materialize again with the Darkhold and Eli's knowledge, Daisy brings Gabe to his safety on board the aircraft, where they immediately hide in the containment cell with Robbie and have it maneuvered under the aircraft as Director Mace docks with a Quinjet without prior notice. Unable to keep his alter ego a secret from him, Robbie tells his brother what happened the night he wanted to take him to a street race in Elis Charger and they fell victim to a drive-by shoot: At the moment of his death, Robbie swore, to do everything to ensure that Gabe survives. When asked by an unknown voice whether he wanted to take revenge on the perpetrators, Robbie replied in the affirmative, which, according to his own statement, made a pact with the devil before he was resuscitated by the Ghost Rider. After Mace notices in the hold that the containment chamber is missing and lets it go back on board, Robbie breaks the door open as the Ghost Rider and rushes at the director, from whom he only lets off through Gabe's intervention. Coulson persuades Mace to give Robbie one last mission to a decommissioned Roxxon power plant that Fitz found out from connections between Momentum Labs and Roxxon, Lucy. When Robbie meets her there and she reveals to him that the attack was initiated by Joseph and that it was actually aimed at Eli, he burns her. Meanwhile, in the reactor room, Coulson has May's Darkhold removed and meets Eli, who suddenly locks himself in the reactor and activates it. As it turns out, Eli himself has always been interested in being able to create matter, and has now achieved this power with this experiment, which makes Coulson, Fitz and Robbie disappear through a pressure wave.

With no trace of Coulson, Fitz and Robbie, the SHIELD team returns to the plane and sees surveillance images as the three are hit by the shock wave and disappear, while Eli kills four agents on his escape. Little does the team suspect that the three are in an intermediate dimension in which they perceive the world around them, but are completely immaterial to the world. Therefore, the team does not notice how the Ghost Rider moves away from Robbie's body and takes possession of Mack, who then decides to find Eli via his connections to the Chinatown gang and sets off on his motorcycle to LA . The astonished Daisy takes up the chase in the Dodge Charger, with Robbie sitting in the car with her without her knowledge. At the SHIELD base, May urges Radcliffe to bring the disappeared back with the help of the Darkhold, but when the latter opens the book, he sees the enormous amount of knowledge as a danger to the human brain. Out of necessity, he lets AIDA read the book and reveals to May (and unknowingly also to Coulson standing next to him) that she is an artificial intelligence. With the knowledge of the book, AIDA builds a dimensional gate and thus creates an access to the intermediate dimension through which Coulson and Fitz manage to step back into the real world despite the dimensional attraction that Coulson withdraws. Meanwhile, in the hideout of the Chinatown gang, Mack is confronted by Robbie, who convinces the Ghost Rider with the promise to carry out his deeds even after his revenge on Eli, to transfer himself back to Robbie. At Mace's orders, Simmons has freed Ellen Nadeer's brother from his stone cocoon at a secret research station, which Nadeer's condition was for Mace to keep the prison pictures under lock and key. Mack finally watches as Robbie returns through the Dimension Gate, ready to go find Eli with him.

After Eli and the Chinatown gang he hired are located in an empty building complex, Coulson reveals to Mace that AIDA is an android and is given permission by him to take her on the upcoming mission, even though Mace is indignant that it is him another secret was withheld. On site, Daisy and Robbie want to enter the building with Yo-Yo via a back entrance, but only Robbie gets to Eli because of a fire trap and is lured into a dimension chamber he built, where he holds him with splinters of carbon . Fitz and Simmons see via Robbie's camera that the chamber contains a demon core made of plutonium , which would cause an atomic explosion if it came into contact with the beryllium surrounding it. When Fitz subsequently realizes that Eli does not create matter, but obtains it from another dimension, Coulson lets his henchmen lead him to him, whereupon Eli certifies that he can survive a nuclear explosion and then create new life. With the conversation, Coulson wants to gain time so that AIDA can construct another dimensional gate under the chamber, protected by Daisy from the earthquakes, and May, Mack, Yo-Yo and Mace can launch a surprise attack in which they kill the mercenaries and Push Eli into the chamber. AIDA activates the dimensional gate and together with Robbie, who burns Eli as Ghost Rider, the chamber disappears into another dimension. Since Daisy is seen by the media on the street, Mace is forced to identify her as a SHIELD agent, which she accepts after returning to the SHIELD base. Mace eventually allows Radcliffe to continue researching with AIDA at the SHIELD lab and sends an agent to pick her up from Radcliffe's house. In the meantime, she wants her brother to be eliminated by watchdogs, but the latter can prevent her from doing so by asserting that he has not changed despite the terrigenesis. It turns out that Ellen's hatred of Inhumans is based on the killing of her mother by the Chitauri in the Battle of New York. In Radcliffe's house, AIDA defends itself against the deletion of its hard drive and removes Radcliffe, Fitz and two agents in the process. In the SHIELD base, Radcliffe then suspects that AIDA was able to become independent through the Darkhold, and after a call from the latter it becomes clear that she is targeting the book. After AIDA incapacitates Coulson and the May android and locks them in a room, Coulson reveals May where the Darkhold is. After a crash landing in the forest, in which the pilot dies, Mace sets out with Coulson and Mack in search of Burrows' body, but rather for the suitcase, and finds it in the clutches of armed mercenaries. At Radcliffe's, May wakes up unexpectedly from her sedation and wants to flee, but AIDA can numb him again. With a surprise attack, Coulson, Mace and Mack get the suitcase into their possession, whereupon Mace opens it and two ampoules with injection instruments appear in it. After these are destroyed by a mercenary who Coulson and Mack can take out, Mace has to admit that he is not an Inhuman and that his superhuman strength comes from a serum. At Ivanov's behest, the watchdog Tucker Shockley visits Senator Nadeer in her office to use a Terrigen crystal to check whether she is an inhuman like her brother. Shockley breaks the crystal in front of Nadeer, but only solidifies to stone himself and then breaks out of this in an explosion that kills Nadeer. In an interview with Coulson and Mack, Agnes explains that she and Radcliffe were once a couple until he left her because he could not cure her brain tumor. Although Agnes no longer wants to have anything to do with Radcliffe, Coulson is able to persuade her to help him by telling her about the kidnapped May, for whom he feels affection. While the general public suspects a bomb attack behind Nadeer's death, the SHIELD team finds Shockley through surveillance cameras, arrests him and brings him on board the plane. After he threatens to explode again there, the team can push him into the containment cell and disconnect it from the aircraft. Under the watchful eye of Coulson and Mack, Agnes makes an appointment with Radcliffe, who calls her over to get her into the car with a promise to get her a better life. The team locates Shockley, whose body reassembles itself again and again after exploding, in the desert, whereupon Daisy forces him to explode with her powers, so that Fitz and Simmons can suck his body particles into a specially made chamber. When Mace's tracking device is located in Alaska, the team flies there, but finds only his armor and a pin board with information about Coulson and a picture of a Russian mining facility in an empty shelter. Coulson recognizes this from an operation in which he and May were supposed to secure an object of unknown origin many years ago and in the process preceded SWR agents with the same order. In his hiding place Ivanov justifies his rejection of the Inhumans to the captured Mace with his conviction that power must be earned and should not be given. When they arrived at the mining facility, the team discovered several skeletons and a cell phone on which Ivanov Coulson called and swore his revenge for the fact that his SWR colleagues were tortured and executed after their failure. The skeletons' suits give the team clues to an old SWR submarine base, where Coulson and Mack eventually find Mace and save him from thugs, while Daisy defeats Ivanov in a duel and buries him under rubble. In the meantime, Fitz tries in vain to find access to the framework in the radio room, and Simmons goes in search of it after the report of an AIDA sighting, but can only watch a submarine cast off. With neither May nor Radcliffe present, the team returns to headquarters with the injured Mace, but Simmons discovers timing inconsistencies in the mission she shares with Fitz. When the two notice that Coulson has deactivated the Android scanner at the entrance, Simmons sees in the system report that four androids were detected when Coulson, Daisys, Macks and Mace arrived, making it clear to the two that these were exchanged during the operation . Coulson works as a teacher in this world and carries out propaganda in the spirit of HYDRA, by defaming Inhumans and denying HYDRA's Nazi past. On May's instructions, Daisy and Ward interrogate the inhuman Vijay Nadeer and after he is silent, May orders Daisy to take him to the "doctor", who is Fitz. Simmons found out about Coulson's activity as a teacher via a HYDRA computer in the car, went to see him and tried to convince him of the virtual world of the framework, but in vain. While Coulson reports this case to the HYDRA authorities, Daisy watches alongside Fitz as Vijay is tormented by machines that analyze his inhuman powers. When Daisy meets Simmons at the previously agreed meeting point in a park, the two are tracked down by HYDRA agents and Ward. However, he reveals himself to be a member of the "resistance" and shoots a HYDRA agent before he takes the two of them into hiding. There Simmons and Daisy decide to leave the framework again and activate an emergency transmitter provided for this purpose, but it does not work. Through the terrigenesis, Daisy receives her inhuman powers and uses them to throw Madame Hydra out of a high floor while fleeing, breaking her spine. On the street, May explains to Daisy that after HYDRA's unscrupulous attack on the children and Mace's heroic efforts, she had experienced a change of heart and therefore turned against HYDRA. Fitz, shaken by Madame Hydra's injury, uses the HYDRA-controlled news program with Sunil Bakshi to brand Daisy and May as terrorists. When the two subsequently reach the SHIELD contact's shelter, they are tracked down by a HYDRA car, which Daisy is able to destroy. The SHIELD team heard about this through a radio message and picked up Daisy and May from the shelter. In the oil platform far below the surface of the sea, Coulson and May have to defend themselves against several Ivanov androids that attack them. On the plane, Simmons, Daisy and Yo-Yo feed the framework's power back to the guns on board so that they can shoot down Ivanov's jet. Meanwhile, in a beach house, Ophelia enjoys her new human feelings and confirms her love for Fitz, who, however, feels massive guilt for his actions in the framework. Ivanov finally leaves the oil rig in his submarine and fires torpedoes at it, whereupon it is flooded. Coulson and May reach the surface where the plane is waiting for them, but Mack threatens to drown in the framework. After Fitz can persuade Ophelia to help his friends, she teleports with him to Mack and with him and the framework on the plane. There Simmons tasers Ophelia and Fitz and locks them in the containment cell before the team flies back to the destroyed SHIELD headquarters. Via a camera, Simmons watches as Fitz expresses doubts in front of Ophelia about whether the love he feels for Simmons still exists with her. Ophelia reacts with horror and becomes aggressive with jealousy, whereupon a SHIELD agent brings Fitz out of the cell to protect him. At the same time, General Talbot enters the plane with a military unit, convinced that the entire team is androids. Since Robbie has fetched his Dodge Charger from a SHIELD hiding place, the team finds him and flies him to a meeting of intelligence representatives, at which Talbot and Ivanov are also present. After a Daisy android shows up and shoots Talbot in the head, the team goes on chase, destroys the Daisy and Ivanov androids, and takes possession of the Darkhold. Yo-Yo is meanwhile freed from the clutches of HYDRA by Radcliffe in the framework and brought to SHIELD, where objects and people gradually begin to disappear. Back at the SHIELD base, Fitz and Simmons finally meet Ophelia, who wants revenge on Fitz and kills Simmons, who turns out to be Android. In front of the dimensional gate, Ophelia meets Coulson, who transforms into the Ghost Rider and can burn Ophelia after a duel. Daisy and Fitz manage to program an exit into the framework near Mack and Yo-Yo, which Mack does not want to enter because of his daughter.
