Michael Zinberg

Michael Allan Zinberg (born March 22, 1944 in Bexar County , Texas ) is an American television director , screenwriter, and producer .

life and work

Zinberg was born in Bexar County, Texas. His parents are Dorothy Zinberg and William Zinberg. He went to school at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio . He studied English at the University of Texas at Austin .

He moved to Los Angeles , California in 1968 . His career in television as a usher at CBS Television City, one of two CBS television studio complexes there . He later became a production assistant, screenwriter and eventually associate producer on the western series Nichols, with James Garner in the title role .

In 1972 Zinberg moved to the TV production company MTM Productions, which was founded by Grant Tinker , the husband Mary Tyler Moore (divorced in 1981) and later managing director of the television network NBC . During his time at MTM Productions, Zinberg worked on various well-known broadcast formats from the 1970s and 1980s, e.g. B. the sitcom Mary Tyler Moore (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) .

From 1979 to 1981 Zinberg was Vice President for Production Development at NBC television , where he was responsible for the television series Hill Street Police Station and Cheers , among other things .

From 1993 to 1995 he was president of NBC Productions , where he in addition to Homicide , JAG - Call of Duty (u. A. The complete late show Saturday Night Live , The Tonight Show with Jay Leno , Late Night With Conan O'Brien ) by the NBC supervised.

In his further career, Zinberg directed many episodes from a wide variety of television series. At Rizzoli & Isles he was again active as executive producer for a few episodes. Well-known series he has directed include Good Wife , The Blacklist, and Navy CIS: New Orleans . He cites directors John Rich , John Frankenheimer , Bob Butler and Gene Reynolds as inspiration for his style of directing .

Zinberg has been married to Leslie Zinberg (nee Fierman) since 1969. She is a writer and designer. They have two sons.
