production

In September 2018 it was reported for the first time that Disney had also planned a series on its in-house streaming service Disney + about the character Loki, known from the Marvel Cinematic Universe , who, staying true to the film universe, would be played by Tom Hiddleston . The budget for the series, which will comprise between six and eight episodes, is said to be “in the area of large studio productions”. Hiddleston later confirmed that he knew about the series plans before the release of Avengers: Infinity War in April 2018. In November 2018, Bob Iger finally confirmed that a Loki series would come. Three months later, Michael Waldron was hired as showrunner , who is responsible for the concept of the series and the script for the pilot . At an event hosted by Disney in April 2019, it was finally officially confirmed that the series will bear the simple name Loki and will start in the provider's second year.

Little is known about the content of the series. So it is believed due to the death of Loki in Avengers: Infinity War a prequel series, in which the consideration represented by Hiddleston Loki like Jim Parsons in Young Sheldon via voiceover could talk about his childhood. Another possibility opened up through Avengers: Endgame , in which Loki created a parallel timeline and thus his own reality, as the directors explained. It was later revealed through a concept art released by Marvel that the series would at least partially take place in the 1970s. Hiddleston commented on the series that they would make a "completely new detour" within the MCU. At the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 it was finally revealed that the series will be released in spring 2019 and that the content will revolve around Loki's life after Endgame . He is supposed to use the space stone to visit various historical events, change them and travel through the multiverse that has been created, which would ultimately lead to the film Thor: Love and Thunder . At the same time, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should also be influenced by the series. As Hiddleston further explained in an interview, the series, which is said to have a total of six one-hour episodes, will again feature typical Marvel humor. In addition, Loki is still on the bad side at the beginning of the plot, but has to face completely new challenges and can therefore develop in a completely different direction than what the audience has been able to see before. Kate Herron was introduced as the director of all episodes in August 2019 . In November of the same year Sophia Di Martino was hired for a leading role. Three months later, Owen Wilson and Gugu Mbatha-Raw's involvement in the series became known. In March 2020, the cast of Richard E. Grant and the young actress Cailey Fleming followed .

After pre-production started in December 2019, filming began at the end of January 2020 under the working title River Cruise . As a cinematographer it acts Autumn Durald . Recordings were made on February 11, 2020 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Subsequently, the film was shot in Loganville , there among other things near a quarry, and in Lawrenceville . The Georgia Renaissance Festival site will be used as a backdrop between February 20 and 24. From February 26th to 29th, the filming finally took place in a mall in DeKalb County . In mid-March 2020, filming was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

A first teaser , which mostly contained scenes from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision , was published on February 2, 2020 as part of Super Bowl LIV .
