What If ...? is an announced American animation series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) based on the comic series of the same name, which addresses alternative scenarios and developments at key points in the films. The series is due to appear on Disney + from summer 2021 .

production

In April 2019, it was reported for the first time that Marvel Studios was working on its own animation series for the streaming service Disney + , which would address alternative scenarios to their films and would be part of the MCU. The first episode is supposed to be about Peggy Carter , who swallows the super soldier serum herself and then becomes Captain America . Steve Rogers , on the other hand, only fights at her side in a suit created by Howard Stark . At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, producer Kevin Feige finally confirmed that the series will be released in the summer of 2021 and that actors from previously released MCU films will be dubbing actors. The aim is Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher appear and guide you through the episodes. At the D23 Expo in August 2019 it was confirmed that What If ...? will consist of self-contained, cross-film episodes that are to appear weekly on the streaming service. In addition, storyboard artist Bryan Andrews , who will act as director, and lead author AC Bradley presented the first footage. For the US launch of Disney + in mid-November 2019, the first short clips with excerpts from the series were released. In the following month, Feige confirmed that the first season would consist of ten episodes, but a second season with another ten episodes was already in production. In March 2020, it was announced that Québec- based Squeeze Studio Animation had been hired to animation five episodes.
