Stuppach is a village and district of Bad Mergentheim in Franconia in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg . Together with the small settlements of Lillstadt and Lustbronn , which lie within its boundaries, the Stuppach district has around 670 inhabitants.

Stuppach's district covers 15.301 km². The stream Stuppach , which flows into the Wachbach, flows through the village.
history
middle Ages
Stuppach was first mentioned in a document from the Comburg monastery in 1095 . In the 13th century, the Teutonic Order, later resident in Mergentheim, acquired the first possessions in and around Stuppach, which continued in the following centuries.
Modern times
In 1607 the governor of the Teutonic Order, Baron von Marquard von Eck zu Mergentheim , had the parish church of the Coronation built. This has housed the Stuppach Madonna by Matthias Grünewald in the adjoining Madonna Chapel since 1812 .
On February 15, 1972, Stuppach was incorporated into the city of Bad Mergentheim together with Rengershausen . As in the context of on 1 January 1973 Württemberg Baden-district reform the district Mergentheim was dissolved Stuppach part in the sequel to the newly formed Tauber district , which its present name on 1 January 1974 Main-Tauber-Kreis received.

Architectural and cultural monuments
- Parish Church of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary from 1607. Johann Nepomuk Meintel designed the high altar from 1852.
- Stuppacher Madonna , created around 1515, an important image of the Virgin by Matthias Grünewald, can be viewed in a chapel of the parish church of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary .
Recreation
A Kneipp facility was set up in 2013 in an old fountain from 1632 next to the B 19 .
Biking and hiking trails
Stuppach is located on the 161 km long Liebliches Taubertal cycle path - the sporty one , which is a complementary variant of the Taubertal cycle path through its side valleys.
