Stuppach is a village and district of Bad Mergentheim in Franconia in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg . Together with the small settlements of Lillstadt and Lustbronn , which lie within its boundaries, the Stuppach district has around 670 inhabitants.

history

middle Ages

Stuppach was first mentioned in a document from the Comburg monastery in 1095 . In the 13th century, the Teutonic Order, later resident in Mergentheim, acquired the first possessions in and around Stuppach, which continued in the following centuries.

Modern times

In 1607 the governor of the Teutonic Order, Baron von Marquard von Eck zu Mergentheim , had the parish church of the Coronation built. This has housed the Stuppach Madonna by Matthias Grünewald in the adjoining Madonna Chapel since 1812 .

On February 15, 1972, Stuppach was incorporated into the city of Bad Mergentheim together with Rengershausen .
