Tønder Kommune (German Tondern ) was a municipality in Sønderjyllands Amt ( North Schleswig ) in southern Denmark . It was created during the municipal reform in 1970 through the merger of the town and country parish Tønder and the rural communities Abild (German: Abel ), Hostrup , Møgeltønder (German: Mögeltondern ) and Ubjerg (German: Uberg ). Since 2007 it has formed the new Tønder municipality together with the municipalities of Højer , Bredebro , Skærbæk , Nørre-Rangstrup and Løgumkloster .
