The district of Tacabamba is located in the province of Chota in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on October 13, 1891. It has an area of ​​196.25 km². The 2017 census counted 15,704 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 18,159, in 2007 it was 18,933. The seat of the district administration is the small town of Tacabamba at an altitude of 2035  m with 3019 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tacabamba is located about 20 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Chota .

Geographical location

The district of Tacabamba is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central north in the eastern part of the province of Chota. It has a longitudinal extension in WNW-ESE direction of about 31 km and a maximum width of almost 12 km. The Río Tacabamba flows through the western part of the district, along the eastern district boundary the Río Llaucano flows north.

The district of Tacabamba borders in the far west on the district Cutervo ( province Cutervo ), in the north on the districts Socota (also in the province Cutervo) and Anguía , in the east on the districts Chimban , Choropampa and Chadín and in the south on the districts Chalamarca , Conchán and Chiguirip .
