Talavera la Real is a Spanish municipality in the province of Badajoz in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura . In 2016, the municipality had 5,453 inhabitants on an area of ​​61.5 km².

The city is located north of the Autovía A-5 motorway on the Rivera de los Limonetes , around 20 km west of the provincial capital Badajoz and 40 km west of Mérida near the left bank of the Guadiana , the course of which borders the municipality in the north. The border with Portugal is around 25 km away and the Portuguese city of Elvas is 10 km from the border.

In the west of the municipality, but already outside the municipality, there is the military airport Base Aérea Talavera la Real , which is also used for civilian purposes .

The railway runs on the right bank of the Guadiana, where the Estación de Talavera station is also located.

• The parish church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia received its tower in 1807 after many renovations. It has a high altar from the Renaissance period.
