Tamnič ( Cyrillic Тамнич) is a village in the Opština Negotin , in the Bor district in eastern Serbia .

History and name

It is not known exactly when the first settlements appeared in the village. The first written records refer to the year 1530. At that time the village with 50 houses was one of the largest villages in the region.

The name Tamnič comes from the word Tamni ( German dark). This is because the village is surrounded by forests .

Residents

The 2002 census (self-named) showed that 349 people live in the village, 348 of whom identified themselves as Serbs and one person as Bulgarian .
