The wasteland in the north of the Upper Palatinate Jura is one of 42 officially named parts of the municipality of Birgland in the western part of the Upper Palatinate . That at a height of 513  m above sea level. Tannlohe, located near the NHN , is about seven kilometers from the parish village of Illschwang to the east- south- east, where the Birglander municipal administration is based.

At the end of the Holy Roman Empire, the electoral Palatinate desert until 1777 was under the sovereignty of the Electorate of Palatinate Bavaria . She belonged to the district judge office Sulzbach , which was the southwestern part of the Duchy of Wittelsbach Sulzbach . As part of the Simultaneum , which had been in effect in the Duchy of Sulzbach since 1652 , the Protestant residents of the village , which at that time consisted of two properties, were parished to Fürnried , while the Catholic residents were assigned to the parish in Heldmannsberg .

By the administrative reforms at the beginning of the 19th century in the Kingdom of Bavaria was Ammer Ried with the Second Gemeindeedikt in 1818 for part of the rural community Fürnried , which also includes the towns of Ammer Ried , Hofstetten , carriage village , Lichtenegg and worm noise included. In the course of the communal territorial reform in Bavaria in the 1970s, Ammerried was incorporated together with most of the municipality of Fürnried on July 1, 1972 into the area municipality of Birgland that had been formed six months earlier.
