geography

Thalheim is located between Dessau-Roßlau and Halle (Saale) on the edge of the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park.

history

Thalheim was first mentioned in a document in 1369 . Over the centuries the spelling of the place name changed several times. Thalheim was called 1403 Daleem , from 1423 Delem , 1456 Dalmark and 1461 Dalem Marke . In 1465 Thalheim was called Dalheim and in 1477 in the desert Höfe zu Dalmarke . The place name Thalheim is a place name of the type “ -heim ” with “Thal” in the foreground, at least that is how the name was interpreted in the tradition in the 15th century. Judging by the oldest evidence, it is a Middle High German place name and means something like "village in the lowlands".

Thalheim went through the worst times during the Thirty Years' War . The village had to endure severe devastation in 1631. Half the village was destroyed in 1640. In 1653 Thalheim only had a quarter of the previous population. Thalheim was hit by witch hunts in 1676 . Christine, wife of Hans Reyher, got caught in a witch trial , the outcome is unknown.

Fire station in Thalheim

The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Bitterfeld until 1815 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna he came to Prussia and in 1816 the district Bitterfeld in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1944th

At least since 1680 there has been a school post in Thalheim, which until 1820 was subordinate to the schoolmaster's post in Reuden. However, this school was set up on Gut Salzfurth under the patronage of the von Zanthier family before the Thirty Years' War . The church and sexton service was done by a schoolmaster von Reuden until 1826 . The catechists from 1678 onwards are fully known on the basis of existing documents.

The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1930 after a major fire in 1929, which the residents were powerless to face. In 1935 the Thalheim fire brigade received a new fire station . On July 1, 1950, Reuden was incorporated into Thalheim, but separated out again on January 1, 1957.

In the course of the district reform, Thalheim formed the new town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen together with Bitterfeld, Greppin, Holzweißig and Wolfen on July 1, 2007.

Thalheim coat of arms

politics

coat of arms

Blazon : “Square of red and silver; Field 1: a golden sun, field 2: two red fish heads, field 3: a red wavy bar, field 4 a golden sheaf. "

The coat of arms symbols are based on the earlier territorial affiliation of the place to the von Zanthier family, who were wealthy in Thalheim and the surrounding area. The Zanthiers had three inclined fish heads, Thalheim's coat of arms only two and this one straight. Since Thalheim was a rural community for centuries, whose economy consisted of field farming apart from handicrafts, the grain sheaf was included in the coat of arms. The rising sun has a double meaning; On the one hand it expresses the bright future of the place and on the other hand it specifically relates to the solar industry, which expanded in Thalheim and represented a significant economic factor. The wave bar refers to the trough.

The coat of arms was designed in 2006 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .

Romanesque village church

Church in Thalheim

The Romanesque village church was probably built around 1150 to 1200 from heavy porphyry rock and boulders. It is a late Romanesque four-part hall church with a transverse west tower, nave, altar arch and apse. The church has only changed slightly over the centuries.

After the Thalheim church burned down in 1637 and became a ruin, it was rebuilt from 1660–1670 by the Zanthiers from Salzfurth. In 2007 and 2008 it was completely restored in its external form based on historical models.

The two historical bells date from 1617 and 1679. According to an incision, the bell cage was installed or renewed around 1725. As of the New Year 1999, the bell stopped ringing due to bell damage. The repair and recommissioning took place in spring 2001.
