The Amazing Spider-Man is an American television series and the first real film adaptation of the Marvel Comics of the same name The Amazing Spider-Man , which was first broadcast by CBS between 1977 and 1979 . There are three releases from the series that were dubbed and broadcast as films in Europe .

Background to the series

The series, along with other Marvel Comics film adaptations such as Hulk , Captain America and Doctor Strange , only aired within the United States. Despite good ratings , it was canceled because CBS did not want to give the impression of a "superhero network". The plot followed the series of the classic story about Peter Parker, who is bitten by a radioactive spider and from then on has special powers. When he uses his new skills to thwart a crime, he gets a job with The Daily Bugle newspaper .

Pilot film

  • 1977: Spider-Man ( The Amazing Spider-Man ) - Science student Peter Parker also works as a photographer for The Daily Bugle newspaper . When bitten by a spider, he realizes that he suddenly has spider-like abilities. He uses this to stop a sect leader who uses mental control to induce his fellow men to rob a bank.

First season

  • 1978: Deadly Dust (Part 1) - When Parker's University allowed plutonium to be used on campus , some of his fellow students banded together to make a political statement against the use of nuclear power and radioactive materials. When they cannot be heard, they build a bomb out of the plutonium. Former terrorists find out that there is a nuclear bomb in the university and take possession of it. Spider-Man then pursues the thieves and tries to take the weapon away from them.
  • 1978: Deadly Dust (Part 2) - Spider-Man follows the trail of the terrorists who demand $ 1 billion or who threaten to use the stolen atomic bomb. Spider-Man finally manages to deactivate them.
  • 1978: The Curse of Rava - The followers of a religious cult from Kalistan protest against the exhibition of their ancient deity Rava in a museum. They warn of a curse that will strike all who look at the statue of their god. Spider-Man has to deal with the cult leader Mandak, who has telekinetic powers.
  • 1978: Night of The Clones - Dr. Moon, perpetual loser in a major science award, has created a clone of himself that he finally hopes to win with. The clone eliminates those members of the committee who for over a decade have refused to appoint Dr. Moon to give the award. Peter tries to solve the mysterious attacks on the members of the committee.
  • 1978: Escort To Danger - The daughter of the newly elected leader of a Latin American country is on the "Miss Galaxy" parade. She is kidnapped by the sister of the defeated dictator who wants to overthrow the new leader and restore his own dictatorship. Spider-Man has to prevent this.

Second season

  • 1978: The Captive Tower - $ 10 million is stolen from a corporate safe in a newly constructed, computer-controlled New York skyscraper. The thieves change the computer program to lock the building. J. Jonah Jameson, Peter Parker and photographer Julie Masters are locked in the building. Parker must find a way to evade both thieves and friends in order to transform into Spider-Man. Eventually the trapped manage to escape and catch the thieves.
  • 1978: A Matter of State - While working on a photo story at the airport, a theft occurs there. Julie Masters unintentionally photographs the man responsible for stealing explosive plans from the NATO Department of Defense. That puts her life in danger. To protect her, Parker has to find out what the thieves were looking for when her apartment was broken into. Finally he finds the photos and as Spider-Man he lures the thieves into a trap to take the papers away from them.

  • 1978: The Kirkwood Haunting - A wealthy widow is haunted by the ghost of her late husband. He instructs her to transfer his former property to a private organization that investigates paranormal phenomena. A family friend, J. Jonah Jameson, asks Parker to investigate the incident and prove that the alleged specialist who directs the dialogues with the ghost is a swindler trying to get the deceased man's fortune.
  • 1979: Photo Finish - Parker suspects he is being used to convict an innocent person alleged to have stolen a valuable coin collection. He therefore removes an incriminating photo that he did not take. He is said to be arrested if he does not give the "evidence photo" to the police.
  • 1979: Wolfpack - Rita and two other students manage to create a new chemical compound while working in the college laboratory. He is blocked by a wealthy American industrialist whose plans for a profitable steel contract depend on Chan's failure.
  • 1979: The Chinese Web (Part 2) - Spider-Man tries to help the Chinese officer who has been charged with murder so that he cannot jeopardize the unscrupulous tycoon's business. To do this, he has to prove on the one hand that Jameson's friend is innocent and at the same time fight against the henchman of a Chinese businessman who wants to see someone else in the position of Minister for Industrial Development.
