action

In 1934, Bonnie and Clyde organize the escape of Raymond Hamilton, Henry Methvin and other prisoners from Eastham Prison Farm (officially: Eastham Unit, also known as The Ham ) in Texas . After another six police officers were murdered by the two, Governor Miriam A. Ferguson (called "Ma" Ferguson) wants to hand the case over to former Texas Ranger Frank Hamer in parallel with the FBI investigation . Hamer, who is already retired, hesitates at first, but then accepts the case and sets off with his former partner Maney Gault in search of the famous and notorious criminal couple who enjoy the sympathy and protection of the population.

Their first stop takes them to Dallas , where they observe the homes of the two criminals and seek cooperation with the local police. Hamer suspects that Bonny and Clyde will visit their families on Easter Sunday and has roadblocks erected. In a remote location, Hamer and Gault carry out target practice with their newly acquired machine guns , the technology of which they had not previously known, and thus prepare themselves for the encounter with Bonny and Clyde. On Easter Sunday, the city resembles a folk festival, as Hamer's assumption has leaked out. Bonny and Clyde do not appear in town, but kill two police officers outside and are watched by a witness. Clyde was carrying a white rabbit. It is confirmed that the two have become more brutal in their approach. The tracks lead the pursuers to Oklahoma . They get the information from a gas station attendant that the gangster couple wanted to go to a workers camp. Once there, the two discover that Bonnie, Clyde and Henry were actually there, and they find the place where they must have stopped in the vicinity. Eventually they come to an intersection and don't know which direction to go until they hear about two more murdered police officers on the radio. At the scene of the crime, the FBI forbids them to conduct their own investigation and they continue to Coffeyville , where they actually discover the three criminals. But since their car is quickly surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd, the investigators cannot strike and lose visual contact in the subsequent chase over dusty fields.

Hamer and Maney are now trying to predict where the three of them are going next. They're looking for states where they're not wanted and where they have families. The criteria apply to the home of Henry Methvin's father, who lives in Bienville Parish , Louisiana . The two of them go to the house and find evidence that they were there. They work with the local police to help them contact the father. Hamer makes him an offer that his son will go to jail but will soon die if he stays with Bonnie and Clyde. The father cooperates with Hamer and Maney and tells them that the three of them want to come here in a few days. Hamer tells him to tell his son to leave. With the help of their father, who plays the decoy , Hamer, Maney and four other people set a trap for the criminal duo and shoot them while they are still in the car.

The car and the corpses are towed to Arcadia (Louisiana) , where many fans sometimes touch the corpses through the windows and the police can hardly hold them back. Hamer and Maney are also celebrated, and despite a well-paid offer for an interview, they leave the city and return home.

The credits show contemporary photographs of the people and events involved at the time.

background

Filming for the film began on February 12 and ended on April 10, 2018. Filming locations included New Orleans , Covington Laplace , Hammond , Thibodaux and Donaldsonville , all of which are in Louisiana . The scenes with the governor ( Kathy Bates ) were also filmed in Baton Rouge in the Old Louisiana Governor's Mansion, the former residence of the Louisiana governors from 1930 to 1963 . The surrounding streets had to be closed for almost a day for the shooting. Over 200 people worked on the film set.

The scene at the end where Bonnie and Clyde are killed was filmed near the actual location. Here, however, trees had to be planted at the roadside and the asphalt road had to be made "unpaved". This was done by scattering sand and dirt on the asphalt. A month later, the scene of Hamer and Maury driving across the Oklahoma border was filmed on a former bridge on US Highway 380 that spans the Brazos River . It had been closed for over 40 years.

The budget is 49 million dollars estimated.
