The Long Home is an American drama directed by James Franco scheduled for release in 2019. It is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by William Gay .

In rural Tennessee in the 1940s , the young carpenter Nathan Winer got a job building a honky tonk bar . Without knowing it, his client, a charismatic black market trader, is the man who murdered his father ten years earlier. Winer falls in love with his wife, but the client tries to bring her to his personal prostitute.

On April 16, 2015, Franco posted a list of actresses who will be involved in the film on Instagram, including Josh Hutcherson , Timothy Hutton , Keegan Allen , Ashley Greene , Tim Blake Nelson , Jim Parrack and Scott Haze . On May 1, 2015, it was announced that Hutcherson will star in the film as Nathan Winer and Tim Blake Nelson will play the role of Thomas Hovington, a black marketeer leader. Courtney Love joined the crew on May 4, 2015 . It was also announced that Giancarlo Esposito will play William Tell Oliver in the film, a simple but decent man. On May 5, 2015, actors Ashton Kutcher , Analeigh Tipton , Robin Lord Taylor , Josh Hartnett and Zoe Levin , who will play Amber Rose in the film, also signed. After Wild Horses in 2015, this is the second film in which Franco and Hartnett stood together in front of the camera.

Filming

The shooting took place in the German Village Historic District in Hamilton

Filming began May 1, 2015 in Southwestern Counties of Ohio, Hamilton County , Butler County, and Cincinnati . In the first two weeks, the filming took place at an old farm house in Shandon, around 15 minutes outside of Hamilton, and further recordings took place in the rural forest and river areas outside the city area. In Hamilton itself, the film was shot at the old parish hall on High Street and on Second Street and Third Street in the German Village Historic District. In Cincinnati, the shoot took place in the city center, where at the same time the shooting of Goat took place, a film that Franco produced and in which he had a cameo . Other locations were Camp Kern in Warren County and Eaton, the administrative seat of Preble County , including Barron Street. While filming at Eaton, $ 48,000 worth of clothing items worn by the actors during the shooting were stolen from the set. Work on the film was finished on May 23, 2015 after 23 days of shooting.
