The Musketeers (Original title: The Musketeers ) is a British television series by BBC One and BBC America , which is based on the novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas and was produced for the broadcasters from 2013. The main roles are Tom Burke , Howard Charles , Luke Pasqualino , Santiago Cabrera and Peter Capaldi . It tells the story of the Musketeers , Athos , Porthos , Aramis and D'Artagnan , who fight for justice in Paris.
It was first broadcast on January 19, 2014 on BBC One and BBC One HD. After the fourth episode was broadcast, the BBC commissioned a second season. The third and final season was released in Germany on November 27, 2016 on Netflix .

In 1630, D'Artagnan , Athos , Aramis and Porthos fight for justice in Paris against evil and Cardinal Armand Richelieu . In addition, they have to reconcile their private life, their problems and their past. After the death of Cardinal Richelieu , the Comte de Rochefort takes on the role of the antagonist in the second season. In the third season, Lucien Grimaud is the opponent of the musketeers . This takes place a few years after the events of the second season and begins in the first episode with the war between France and Spain on the battlefield. Only then do the four return to Paris.

| The young swordsman d'Artagnan and his father Alexandre are on their way to Paris to hand the king a petition when they are attacked while resting in an inn. Alexandre is killed by a man who claims to be the musketeer Athos. To avenge the death of his father, d'Artagnan rides on to Paris to find and kill Athos. Meanwhile, Athos, Porthos and Aramis are told by Treville to look for a missing squad of musketeers. On their return, Athos is confronted by d'Artagnan with the charge of murdering his father. It comes to a fight with the three musketeers, which is ended by the courageous intervention of Constance Bonacieux. Shortly thereafter, Athos is arrested on an intrigue for murder and put on trial. Porthos and Aramis d'Artagnan come to the rescue to prove that Athos is innocent. Together they can find the real culprit. | |||||||||

| Porthos wakes up from a drunkenness next to the body of a dead man. He is arrested by the Red Guard and sentenced to death for murder. Before the sentence is carried out, he is rescued by thieves and taken to the “Court of Miracles”, a slum area in Paris where thieves, beggars and whores live. This is where Porthos grew up an orphan and still has old friends like the Thief King. At first it is not possible for Athos, Aramis and d'Artagnan to enter the courtyard. | A young girl is killed trying to hand over a petition to the queen passing in a carriage. The petition was written by the wealthy noblewoman Comtesse De Larroque Ninon, in which she advocates equality and education for women. The cardinal wants to convict the countess of witchcraft. Arrested and brought to justice, Milady de Winter appears as a witness and accuses the Comtesse of the crime. | The extremely brutal prisoner Labarge is said to be taken to prison by musketeers. On the way there, however, the Cardinal's Red Guards force them to surrender Labarge. Labarge is able to free himself at short notice and kills the captain of the Red Guard. This incident increases the animosity between the Musketeers and the Red Guard. This information reaches the king, who then calls a competition between the best man of the Red Guard and the musketeers and promises the winner a handsome prize money. d'Artagnan learns that Labarge has burned his farm and wants to take part in the competition, both to get revenge on Labarge and to use the money to secure his existence. The cardinal appoints Labarge, who is actually in custody, a member of the Red Guard and selects him as the competitor. Captain Treville has a competition between musketeers, but chooses himself when he learns who the cardinal has set up. During the competition, Labarge breaks the rules and thereby injures Treville, so that in the last fight d'Artagnan is allowed to step in for Treville. | The king is disappointed about the queen's inability to have children and, as a result, desires Charlotte, the daughter of Prince Mellendorf from Hamburg, to be the new queen. Meanwhile, the queen is under the protection of the musketeers at a forest pool, which is supposed to increase the fertility of women. Since the cardinal likes the idea of a new queen, he sends an assassin to kill the reigning queen. | Athos takes his wife Milady de Winter hostage while drunk. The other musketeers try to dissuade him. It turns out that d'Artagnan had an affair with Milady. Athos then shoots him. The hostage-taking and the dispute only ended when Treville intervened. As a result, not only Athos but also Porthos and Aramis turn away from d'Artagnan. This leads Milady de Winter and the Cardinal to believe that they can completely separate the Musketeers. Milady manages to get d'Artagnan to go over to the cardinal at the cost of killing Athos. Cardinal Richelieu does not realize that the whole story is a trap and reveals that he had given the order to kill the queen. Then the hidden queen reveals herself to the cardinal.
