Thomas Koschwitz (born April 6, 1956 in Heidelberg ) is a German radio and television presenter , actor and book author .

Life

Koschwitz often moved with his parents in the first few years of his life. After working in Heidelberg, Gelsenkirchen and Braunschweig , he lived in Marburg an der Lahn from the age of 9 . There he went to school, graduated from high school and studied. Koschwitz began his career in 1975 at the age of 19 as the youngest radio news anchor ever to work for Hessischer Rundfunk . His fascination with radio was triggered by his involvement in a medium-wave pirate station at the local boarding school in Marburg in the early 1970s . After this was prevented by the director, she gave him a first look at the Hessischer Rundfunk. There he was encouraged to take part in a speaker casting. This took place at the same time as his Abitur and resulted in him being the only one of 25 applicants to be accepted. This gave him the aforementioned job as a newscaster in the radio program of the hr. Koschwitz had already submitted his first report on the Blista in Marburg to the hr; it was broadcast there too.

After he was allowed to help out on the morning show and showed entertaining qualities, he received his first own programs like Pop auf Wunsch and Drugstore 1422 on Saarland Radio . In addition to studying German , political science , sociology and speech science between 1975 and 1980 in Marburg an der Lahn in Upper Hesse, he developed into one of the most prominent speakers and moderators of the hr3 , alongside established figures such as Hanns Verres and Werner Reinke . Koschwitz's style and language had a high recognition value and made formats such as Pop and Weck , Lunch Discotheque and Pop with guests popular and successful programs. The program Kuschelrock , which Koschwitz developed and hosted in the mid-1980s, is still regarded as his most successful production .

1985 Koschwitz started his first attempts as a TV presenter for the Hessian radio, among other things with a broadcast at and around the Frankfurt airport. This was followed by engagements with the private broadcaster Sat.1, including on breakfast television . As a vacation replacement he took over the moderation of the RTL night show with great success during the summer break of Gottschalk Late Night in 1994 . However, this was discontinued in 1995 with the start of the Harald Schmidt Show on the competing broadcaster, where Koschwitz presented the animal show Hamster TV a year later . According to his own statement, Koschwitz had clearly underestimated the effect of this production, which was subject to derision and criticism. He later regretted ever having taken on the moderation for this, although the show achieved a target group market share of 14.7 percent.

In addition, Koschwitz had other TV engagements as a talk show host and actor, including on the news channel N24 with the successful Late Night Talk format Koschwitz , which was broadcast from 2000 to December 2002, or in the Tatort episode Targeting , in which he featured a cynical television maker in 2001 played. In the meantime, Koschwitz worked as a presenter for the 94.3 rs2 broadcaster in Berlin from the late 1990s . When he started working for N24, Koschwitz moved to Berlin, because the talk show - before the station left Munich - was being produced there in a specially built studio. With TV and radio engagements, it should be almost 20 years that he spent there.

On October 4, 2002, he suffered a stroke while filming . He dealt with this event and its consequences in a book. After his recovery he took on television projects again in 2003 and 2004 for Kabel eins and Sat.1.

From 2004 Koschwitz began to focus on the radio again. He presented the weekend program Koschwitz on the radio stations Berliner Rundfunk 91.4 , harmony.fm and Klassik Radio . This format is currently broadcast by Radio Brocken , 105'5 Spreeradio , Antenne 1 , RTL - Germany's hit radio , Radio Nordseewelle , Antenne Landau and Antenne Pfalz . The background to this format is, on the one hand, Koschwitz's conviction that radio must move away from the image, only play music and instead "become an event" again, and on the other hand, his affinity to work out the messages and thoughts of other people. Shortly before the 2005 Bundestag election, the “Radio Summit” moderated by Koschwitz with Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and then Chancellor candidate Angela Merkel , which was broadcast in full on the 45 most important private radio stations almost simultaneously, attracted a lot of attention . Around 15 million listeners were able to see how Koschwitz asked the chancellor and challenger.

From August 2006 to April 2010 he hosted the morning program Koschwitz am Morgen for Berliner Rundfunk 91.4 on weekdays between 6 and 10 a.m. , most recently with his son Tim . He could also be heard on the program Koschwitz Classic Hits every Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. He then switched to the Berlin competition 104.6 RTL , where he hosted his own program Koschwitz in the afternoon for 6 years . He still carries out this project today through voice tracking for the radio station 105'5 Spreeradio.

In 2016 he also appeared on stage as an actor in Berlin.

After many years of living in Berlin, Koschwitz moved back to his home in Hesse in Frankfurt in 2018 . Since August 13, 2018 Koschwitz has been moderating live Koschwitz in the morning on hr1 . He returned to the Hessischer Rundfunk, where he started his radio career and worked for almost 20 years.

Like many of his colleagues, Koschwitz is active as a presenter and entertainer for events and galas for various occasions and clients in addition to his numerous engagements in radio.

Private

Koschwitz married in Marburg in 1981, but the marriage was not permanent. He has a son, Tim Koschwitz , who also works as a radio host, and a daughter. In the summer of 2016 he married his long-time partner Cindy.
