The Huanuhuanu district is located in the Caravelí province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 706 km². The 2017 census counted 3164 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1326, in 2007 it was 2509. The seat of the district administration is the 948 m high village of Tocota . Tocota is located on the Quebrada de Chala, just under 80 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Caravelí .
Geographical location
The Huanuhuanu district is located in the central north of the Caravelí province. The district extends over the southern foothills of the Cordillera Volcánica . It is drained south via the Quebrada de Chala. The area consists mostly of desert.
The district of Huanuhuanu borders in the south on the district Chala , in the west on the district Atiquipa , in the north on the district Pullo ( province Parinacochas ), in the northeast on the district Quicacha and in the southeast on the district Chaparra .
