Tokarev - The past never dies (original title Rage ) is an American - French feature film by the director Paco Cabezas from 2014 . In the main role, Nicolas Cage can be seen as a gangster who wants to avenge the murder of his daughter.

action

Paul Maguire is a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He has left his gangster past behind since his first wife, the mother of his daughter Caitlin, died of breast cancer. One evening when he is going out with his second wife Vanessa, almost sixteen-year-old Caitlin, who is celebrating with two school friends in the Maguire house, is kidnapped by strangers. Paul asks his friends Danny and Kane to go to the underworld to find out who is behind the kidnapping, but the research remains unsuccessful.

A few days later, Caitlin's body was found and shot with a Tokarev pistol . Kane explains to Paul that this is the Russian mafia's preferred weapon . Paul is therefore certain that the murder is an act of revenge by the gang boss Chernov, because 19 years ago Paul, Danny and Kane attacked and killed a Chernov money messenger. The three raid an illegal game club and later a drug house of the Russian mafia to lure Chernov out of the reserve.

After the raids, Chernov sends his people out to catch the masterminds. When the Russians come to Kane's bar, Paul calls for help, but he can no longer prevent Kane from being kidnapped by the mafiosi.

Kane is tortured by Chernov, who wants to find out the reason for the raids from him. When Kane confesses to the robbery on the messenger, Chernov is surprised - he didn't know that the three were behind it. He tells Kane that the messenger was his brother and kills him.

In the meantime, Paul visits Danny, whom he could not reach by phone during the attack on Kane. He suspects Danny of talking about the robbery and betraying Paul and Kane. Danny denies the betrayal. The two fight and Paul stabs Danny with his knife. Shortly afterwards, he remembers Kane's explanation of the Tokarev pistol. He drives home, where he keeps the gun from the messenger, which he took from him after the robbery, and discovers that it is a Tokarev.

When Paul confronts Mike, one of the two boys who were with Caitlin during the robbery, he admits that there was no robbery at all. The three of them were drunk that night and had been playing around with Paul's guns Caitlin had shown them. A shot accidentally went off and killed Caitlin. The two boys then hid Caitlin's body in the woods out of fear and staged the attack.

Paul drives home, from where he calls Vanessa, who is in the car. He explains to her that it is all over and tells how he became a gangster by chance as a teenager and that he wonders what would have become of his life without this chance. Then he kills himself with his knife on Caitlin's bed.
