Career

society

Hubočan began his career in his hometown with the U-19 of MŠK Žilina , in whose first team he rose in 2004. In 2006 he was loaned to FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce for half a year . After his return to Žilina he rose to one of the best defenders in the Slovak first division and was instrumental in the fact that his club could be with him in the 2006/07 season with only 13 goals from 22 games Slovak champions.

His outstanding performance aroused the interest of top international clubs and finally switched to Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2008 for a transfer fee of 120 million Slovak crowns (approx. 3.8 million euros) , the highest transfer fee ever to a Slovak one Association had been paid. After failures in central defense, Hubočan came to Saint Petersburg on September 30, 2008 after only 11 completed league games to his debut in the Champions League against Real Madrid , where he underwent an own goal in the 4th minute of the game. In 2010 he became Russian champion with Zenit.

After a total of 113 games for Zenit, Hubočan moved to Dynamo Moscow in 2014 . In his six years for Zenit he hadn’t managed to score a single league goal, but in his first season for Dynamo he scored two, his first against Mordovia Saransk on December 4, 2014 .

For the 2016/17 season he moved to Olympique Marseille and was loaned from there to the Turkish club Trabzonspor in the summer of 2017 .

National team

Hubočan made his debut for the Slovak national team on December 10, 2006 in a 2-1 friendly victory against the United Arab Emirates . In the meantime he has become one of the regular defenders in his country. However , he was not in the squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, in which Slovakia failed in the last 16 against the Netherlands .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Slovak squad. Since he was injured in the run-up to the tournament, he was spared in the opening game against Wales. He played a full 90 minutes against Russia and England. The team got 4 points from the two games and qualified for the round of 16. Against Germany, Hubočan had to pass again and Slovakia was eliminated after a 3-0 defeat.
