Tomáš Martinec (born March 5, 1976 in Pardubice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former German - Czech ice hockey player and current coach . He has been head coach at EC Kitzbühel from the Alps Hockey League since 2018 .
Career
Tomáš Martinec began his career at ESV Kaufbeuren , for whose junior and senior team, the Kaufbeurer Adler , he was on the ice after the German Ice Hockey League was founded. After returning to his home country of the Czech Republic, the attacker switched to Iserlohner EC in 1998 , with whom he was promoted to the DEL in 2000. For the 2002/03 season, the left shooter moved to the Adler Mannheim . Through an exchange with Thomas Greilinger , coach Greg Poss , under whom Martinec already played in Iserlohn's times, brought him to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . He received a two-year contract and was also named captain of the Ice Tigers. Since his youth Tomáš Martinec wore the jersey number 13, which his father Vladimír Martinec had already worn at HC Pardubice .
In 2006 he returned to Adler Mannheim, where he signed a three-year contract. With the Adler, he became German champion and cup winner in 2007 under Greg Poss, who had taken over the position of head coach in Mannheim a year earlier during the current season .
In September 2010 Martinec signed a one-year contract with the Heilbronner Falken from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . In 2011 he ended his active career.
Martinec runs the Hockey Dome in Mannheim-Käfertal together with his wife , was temporarily a member of the board of the Mannheim ERC and coach of the student league team of Jungadler Mannheim.
He started the 2015/2016 season as head coach of the upper division Füchse Duisburg . The separation followed in December after the club had previously terminated two players who had played skater hockey for a team in Essen without the club's approval. One of the players concerned had asked Martinec for permission, the Füchse Duisburg considered this a breach of contract.
For the 2016/17 season, Martinec took the position of head coach at the upper division Hannover Scorpions . After a year in Hanover, he was initially employed by the Harzer Falken in the Oberliga as an assistant coach in the 2017/18 season , after two months his tenure there ended, in December 2017 he took over the head coach at EHC Waldkraiburg (also Oberliga).
