Along with the rigors Nature Reserve Tsingy de Bemaraha is the park since 1990, UNESCO - World Heritage . The area has been a national park since 1997, before that it was part of the Tsingy de Bemaraha Strict Nature Reserve.
landscape
The area is a karst landscape with striking limestone formations, the Tsingy ( Malagasy ). These are closely spaced limestone needles that form a stone forest. In the south, the 723 km² reserve is bordered by the canyon of the Manambolo River, in the east by cliffs up to 400 m high.
Forest and open spaces alternate on the plateau. An annual rainfall of around 1000 mm means that the gorges at the foot of the Tsingys are extremely humid, while savanna-like conditions prevail on the karst areas. In deeper areas there are lakes and mangroves .
