action

"The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar"
Ernest Valdemar is dying. His young wife Jessica cheats on him with his doctor Robert Hoffman and tries with his help to transfer the old man's fortune to her. To do this, Robert hypnotizes Ernest and hypnotizes him to make calls to his lawyer. One evening it seems as if Ernest has died. Since the assets will only be transferred to Jessica if he is still alive, she and Robert hide the body in a freezer. Shortly afterwards, Jessica begins to hear her husband's voice. Robert finds out that Ernest is dead, but was still under hypnosis when he died. After a while, Ernest escapes his icy grave thanks to the voices that will not let him die . Jessica dies trying to permanently eliminate Ernest. One night Robert is killed by the voices .
"The Black Cat"
The crime scene photographer Rod Usher is working on an illustrated book entitled " Metropolitan Horrors ". However, he can only go about his work to a limited extent as he is distracted by the black cat of his fiancée Annabel. He is very aggressive with them and constantly attacks him. One day, when he was heavily drunk, he tortured the cat in order to take pictures for his picture book and killed her in the process. When Annabel discovers Rod's photo book in a library, she realizes the truth and makes the decision to part with Rod. When she wants to move out, she is surprised by Rod and killed by him in the course of the argument. Then he walled up the body in the house. In order to pretend to his neighbors that Annabel is still alive, he makes a doll that is similar to her and goes on vacation with it so that the neighbors can notice the departure. After his return, Detective LeGrand visits him because Annabel has gone missing. He questions Annabel's whereabouts. In the course of the house search, LeGrand handcuffed Rod and his assistant found Annabel's walled-in body. Rod kills them both and hangs himself while trying to loosen the shackles.

criticism

"Moving both episodes into the present robs the routinely staged horror food of its atmospheric atmosphere."

“[…] The two genre greats Romero and Argento get together again, and what comes out of it this time: a film with mediocre content, great in its Gore scenes, which ultimately disappoints rather than blows you off your feet. [...] "
