The Kieferngarten underground station (abbreviation of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft : KG ) is an above-ground underground station at the Kieferngarten in the Freimann district of the Bavarian capital of Munich . It is located on the main line 1 of the Munich subway and is served by the U6 line.

history

The underground line between the Kieferngarten stations, which was planned under the name Kieferngartenstraße , and Goetheplatz is the oldest underground line in Munich. It was built from February 1, 1965 and opened on October 19, 1971. The U6 ended here until the Fröttmaning underground station went into operation on June 30, 1994. The elevators have been upgraded.

The western platform of the underground station was modernized from May 21 to August 16, 2013 together with the western side of the Heidemann Bridge. To enable barrier-free boarding, the platforms were raised by 5 centimeters, the roof was also renovated and new emergency telephones were installed. The corresponding renovation work on the east side has been running since April 12, 2014.

Location and surroundings

The train station is on the eastern edge of the Kieferngarten settlement, parallel to the Kieferngartenstraße, which runs in a north-south direction. To the west of it is the Freimanner Heide residential area. The MOC Munich Event Center is also located south of the train station .

After 1431 meters towards the city center, where the Heidemannstraße is crossed on the Heidemann Bridge, the subways reach the next station, the underground station Freimann . In the opposite direction, after 830 meters, after a branch to the technical base , there is the Fröttmaning underground station . The city center ( Marienplatz train station ) is a good eight kilometers and about a 15-minute drive away.

Station complex

construction

Because of the connection to the technical base, the station has four tracks with two central platforms. So that the routes of the subways cross as rarely as possible at the junction with the same plan, the subway trains passing through stop at the western edge of the platform, and those driving into or out of the depot at the eastern one. Both central platforms are only accessible via escalators and fixed stairs and an elevator each at their southern end; these lead to an underground mezzanine level, which can also be reached via fixed stairs, escalators and elevators from Kieferngartenstrasse in the west and from a senior citizens' home on Bauernfeindstrasse in the east.

layout

The southern two thirds of the platforms are each covered by a column-supported concrete roof. The underside of the roofs is covered with aluminum slats, with recesses left for the lamps. The columns are tiled with black tiles, the floor is covered with paving slabs. The elevator shafts are clad with blue glass.

traffic

The U6 runs every 10 minutes at the station, every 5 minutes during peak times. During rush hour, every second underground line ends in Fröttmaning.

There is a bus station on Kieferngartenstraße, where five city and one night bus lines stop. Since the federal motorway 9 has a junction near the station, a park-and-ride parking garage was built at the station, and there is also a bike-and-ride parking garage.
