The Freimann underground station (abbreviation of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft : FR ) is an above-ground underground station in the district of the same name in the Bavarian capital of Munich . It is located on the main line 1 of the Munich subway and is served by the U6 line.

history

As part of the route between the Kieferngarten and Goetheplatz stations , which opened on October 19, 1971, the station is one of the oldest Munich underground stations. It was planned under the name Harnierplatz .

The station was rebuilt from 2006 to 2009, as it was the only one in the Munich subway network that was not barrier-free . Since at that time only the northern entrance existed, the station was difficult to reach from the other side of the A9. During the 2006 summer vacation, the paving of the platform was first renovated. No subways stopped at the station during this phase. From 2007 to 2009 the southern entrance was built and the glass roof was renewed. The northern entrance was then renovated. Construction work was completed at the end of 2009.

Location and surroundings

The federal motorway 9 , which separates it from the historical center of the district, runs parallel to it to the east of the train station . To the west of the station there is a housing estate that was built for the workers of the Munich-Freimann repair shop . Further to the west is the Freimanner Hölzl industrial and commercial area , which is also the location of the Zenith event hall and the MOC event center .

The next train station in the city center, the Studentenstadt underground station , is 1087 meters away. The A9, the Münchner Nordring and the Frankfurter Ring are crossed under between the two stations, and there is also a siding to the Münchner Nordring. Leaving town, after 1,431 meters and crossing Heidemannstrasse on the Heidemannbrücke, you will reach the Kieferngarten underground station . The Marienplatz train station in the center of Munich is about 6.7 kilometers and a journey time of 13 minutes.

construction

The double-track station with a central platform has two entrances. Under the north end of the platform is a barrier floor that leads to Georg-Wopfner-Straße and Harnierplatz. From there, the train station can only be reached via fixed stairs. The retrofitted southern access consists of a bridge over the tracks that connect Georg-Wopfner-Strasse and Zinnienstrasse via a motorway underpass. This is provided with fixed stairs and an elevator at each end. The platform is connected to this bridge via escalators and fixed stairs and another elevator.

layout

The station platform is covered with granite slabs. The northern two thirds of the station are covered by a glass roof with fluorescent tubes attached to the brackets. The roof is supported by pillars clad with aluminum panels.

traffic

The U6 runs every ten minutes at the station and every five minutes during peak times. Every second underground train ends in Fröttmaning during peak times.

There are no transfer options to other public transport.
